beginner's bad luck?

Did any of you guys feel when you started out that you just seemed to have really bad luck when it comes to certain things?

Oddly, I seem to have bad luck with clowns.

My first clown died of a parasite that wouldn't respond to any treatments I tried (rather, every treatment seemed to make it worse).

Then I got three small clowns since the store was out of medium clowns. Seemed to be doing ok....

Yesterday, they finally started to swim around the tank. I took a shower and went back to the tank and one was gone. Just as I said, "where did he go?" he came flying out of the pump!

And was dead from impact. I didn't realize that it was small enough to fit in the pump.

Another one kept swimming by some rock crevices where I am convinced that the mantis (who hasn't fallen for ANY of my traps) is hiding. I haven't seen the little guy since last night. But maybe he is hiding like my dottyback did for days.

The only one left in clear sight is the one guy who refuses to leave the same spot.

Clownfish are supposed to be simpler fish. But I have less problems with level B corals and my tang (who prefers mysis over nori for some reason).

Luckily, I have never been one to be discouraged and since clownfish have always been my favorite, I will keep trying, but it's just kind of ironic to me....

The only fish Ive had problems with are blue tangs. Ive had 2 and manged to kill them within a week. My clowns that died got the crap kicked out of them, and my clowns Ive got now have been with me for a long time. Especially my tomato Clown. He was in my first tank, I got him when he was really really small. (according to some people on here, I shouldnt have even boughten him) but hes doing great, so no problems with that.

When I lived in Tokyo I must have gone through 8 cleaner shrimp before I got one to live a year or so. They really aren't terribly difficult to keep either. Between filters, other marine life, and mysterious reasons I managed to loose all of them but one. I had one that was dead by the time he hit the bottom of the tank. Your better than I Sangogo, I haven't had a cleaner shrimp since!

I've had bad luck with fish in QT. I think I've purchased 8 fish, and 4 have made it through QT. Considering the health most of these fish are in at the store, I don't think I'm doing too bad. I did lose a clown once. I found him in the filter sock with his face eating off. I did have him for 8 months though, and he had quite a personality.

Since I lost the last one, a royal gramma, I was no longer interested in fish. They poop and need to be fed. Zoos however, are the way to go! I am considering getting another clown, as the kids loved the last one I had.

Hang in there!

While I enjoy fish, I have to say for a year I've had nothing in my tank but a small sharp nose puffer and my tank has never been healthier. Less polluters equals better water quality!

god my first full year was a giant disaster.. cant even count how many fish and coral I killed.. :( but you just have to stick with it and learn from your mistakes..

I'm not big on fish either . . Less is more with fish. But I have always wanted a clownfish, so I hope I can get that to work out.

Thinking of getting a goby to clean up the sand though. Anyone here know whether any the breeds we can get in Japan will do that?
