Anybody have a good resource for someone considering keeping a clam? I'm looking for the basics.

I do have one specific question, is there any clams that can handle low light?

TIA,

Hi Greg, how are you?

The best resource I know of would be Knop's book or his articles: http://members.home.net/greenmariner/clampage.htm

Well, I do not know much about the light requirements of H. hippopus or T. tevoroa, I can tell you that if you want to minimize light needs, you'll need to go with a derasa, gigas, or squamosa. It is my understanding that the squamosa needs the least amount of light of these, and I would pack as much VHO over it as possible, at least. Derasas are simliar, but I would put them closer to the lights, as well as the gigas, perhaps in a sand-filled depression in a rock.

Thanks HFF, things are going well, you?

I'm thinking about putting a small reef together with a clam or two. Sounds like I should put a MH over the tank in any case, eh?

Very good, thanks. Good to hear you're doing well.

About the MH, yes, that's the best course, I would think; it would definitely be the more optimal environment.
