Beloved hair algae

It can be hard to ditch some clients, money wise. However, just pay attention to the amount of stress and time you are investing. I don't know how much you value your hourly rate, but I will never under mine my wages. I think you have done all you can. Just my .02

If he isn't going to invest the time (personal and yours) and resources ($$$$) then he can't reasonably expect any positive result. I'd begin by making my proposals to him in writing and having him sign them. In these written proposals I would give a detailed explanation of the current issues with the system. As well as list in detail the reasons why you are suggesting the changes to current regiment equipment and/or husbandry wise to remedy these issues. And be very careful in the wording. List these issues in a manner that doesn't directly "blame" the client. I would also make a notation on the proposal as to the clients "reasons" for declining to follow your advice/suggestions and his/her instructions to you on how they want their system maintained & have him/her sign that as well. I'd keep detailed notes on everything you do to the system also.

In the worst case scenario event that the system completely crashes and they sue you. You'll have written documentation to the fact that they ignored your advice and you'll have a detailed account of what your hand was in and what their instructions to you were in the maintenance/care of the system.
