Benggai Cardinalfish

Quick question about these fish.... One benggai or a group? I have a 75g display. How many fish is the right number of fish?

I have had 4 in my 300 for over 2 years now no problems 3 stay together other one is a loner minor chasing

In a large enough tank, it is possible but does not always work. The three together sound like FMF and the loner may be a M

If any of em pair up, the others will be killed for sure. I have a spawning pair :) getting a second round soon (they were mating last week)

Had them since mid August. Some I bought and others were orphans taken in when a friend left the hobby. Tank is a 55 g and densely stocked at the moment. I think because I have so many the aggression is spread out equally and no one fish takes too much abuse. That and I feed heavily (and skim heavily with vinegar dosing).

Your stocking list is not long term stable and you are about to have a few problems. When your Banggai cardinals are sexually mature, they will start picking off their tank mates as will the firefish and the chromis.

You're right and the more important thing is I just want my fish to be happy long term. Imagine us humans being forced to live in densely packed habitats. It's just not ideal for us or the fish. They have been getting along and I haven't had any fatalities in months, but it just doesn't feel right.

I've been getting some interest from people on WAMAS that want to buy my fish, I just hope they are not too hard to catch...

There should be tank bred available. Is there a local reef club there?

WAMAS is the local club along with CMAS (Baltimore) which is the club I belong to. I don't know much about WAMAS but I understand they are bigger and more active. I believe iceet is a WAMAS poster.
