Ben's new 180 gallon peninsula tank

I tried it once when I had a jbj 28 gallon tank. I had the light pressed right up against the glass and I could not keep the cheto growing and it slowly died off. Maybe someone else can chime in and let us know if one worked for them.

Yea I use a LED right now for my sump made by jbj and it has done well, even growing Coraline in the sump. We shall see though

Maybe I just did not have good water flow through the little chamber in the back of my JBJ. I'm following your thread, can't wait to see updated pics. Do you have any pictures of your current tank?

So I took some photos, with my phone so I am sorry if they are blurry, of the equipment I have right now, pretty much I have everything with the exception of the other two Radion's, 65 gallon trash can, and new substrate. I have decided to purchase a GFO and I am caught between NextReef MR1 or BRS dual reactor. I am leaning towards NextReef since the crew at WWM speaks very highly of this unit.

Aquamaxx cone, rated for 375 gallons. Reviews on this is great however, my brother has had issues with the pump and has gone through two of them within 4-5 month spand so I am worried now:hmm4:

Stunner 8k white LED for my sump, hope it works

Clear container on the left will hold 10 gallons for my ATO. The 10 gallon tank to the right is my QT, on the smaller side I know but it is what I can use in the space I am building for my stand

Float switch for my ATO from autotopoff. I got the dual since I like the added security

I think the only thing I have not taken a photo of is my 55 gallon sump and that is because it is still in my truck. I have not been able to move it out of the back seat because I dont want to risk dropping and breaking it. But that is a standard 4 foot tank.

Are you not worried that your radions will vary in color?

I forget which post it was, but someone ordered multiple LED units (could have been AI Sols even, not sure) but the serial numbers were so far apart that they gave off two completely different colors.

Never even thought about this......but I cant see this as being valid. However, I would not want to spend all this money have multiple units displaying different colors so I emailed EchoTech and I will post their response when I hear back

Yeah, not trying to freak you out at all, but the large sum of money is why I brought it up. I will try to find that thread.

I don't believe this too be true, if you could find the thread I would like to read it.

If you are going to run that glass holes box any more than 50% of its rated volume, have them send you the ekamat to stuff in the box to help silence it. It is a great product, just needs a bit more help to be quiet.

yes it quiets it downbut you also have to occasionally look inside and clean it.

As for the radions the only difference in color he would see is if they aren't calibrated correctly which he can fix himself. I have two sets of radions and their serial numbers are from December and February and very far apart and i have no problems. Once I reset them to factory calibration settings they looked the same. I still have an issue with the right one starting a little bit before the left one but its ok. Kinda like a sunrise but i have that feature turned off... One day when I am back home and bored i will call thema nd completely fix it

And the beat goes on

And the beat goes on

Ok I have made progress, not much but some. I have the birch sides up! and have the holes cut for my doors, 4 of them 2 on each side. They are going to be massive doors! as you can see :fun5: that I cant wait to use. Very easy access to the sump as I will no longer have to climb into the stand to look at things or move things around.

The cabinet will have 2 doors on the lower portion and 1 on the upper portion. The back side of the upper cabinet is going to have a fake door to make it uniform with the bottom. Completed some sanding but have a little more to go.

This is the over all shot of the stand. Sorry for the poor image quality, from my phone.

This is the cabinet (the top piece slides right off and is held by wooden rods)

This is a side shot of the upper cabinet. The area facing us, the viewer, will be left exposed (no wood end piece). My plumbing is going into the upper cabinet and down to the sump. I will have to paint this side of the tank.

This is looking from the far side of the cabinet. You can see I laid vinyl flooring down to help prevent water damage to the stand if a flood were to occur or for water spillings. (yes I know I just made up a word) The vinyl was very easy to install and not expensive.

This is a view of the lower cabinet. You can see the "wall" that separates the sump area from the lower cabinet. initially my plan was to divide the two with wood but I have decided to leave it open as I am going to have plumbing/electrical going between the "wall"/divider

Another angle of the lower cabinet. You can see how enforced each leg, three 2x4 for each.

Up next will be the trim which was finally decided on! I will not try to explain as it will not make any sense so readers you will have to wait until pictures are taken, hopefully within 2 weeks.

Nice! I like the addition of vinyl flooring.

How much do you think the cabinet will weigh when you're done? And, dumb question maybe, will it fit through the doors to the room it's going into?

I live in Gilbert if you need a hand in moving it.

And it's good to know someone else has so much stuff that they can't park their car in the garage!

Very Nice! It really is nice when you see someone build the upper side cabinet. I think Tiiff had a micro algae tank in hers.

Weyrman- I am not sure how much the cabinet will weigh, but it is going to be heavy however, it will be nice to take the top piece off to relief some of the weight  In all I think this stand is going to be very heavy. Since the stand is 2 feet wide, I do not for see any issues with it fitting through doors or hallways. I will certainly keep you in mind for moving date! Thanks for the offer.

m-six I was originally planning on storing fish supplies in the upper cabinet and having a QT tank in the lower portion. Now I am having thoughts to keeping a tank in each part! :fun4: We will see

Stand is looking awesome.

Sorry I could not find the thread about the varying led colors...but I know that I saw it on THIS forum, and that was the answer that he posted from the manufacturer. I will continue to search, but have had no luck.

Again, looks great keep it up!

Ben, the stand is coming along nicely.
I would recommend furniture dollys when it comes time to moving.
I have some if you need to use them, best investment!

What color stain or paint are you going with?
