I've had a few discussions with local reef keepers and am wondering if many of you out there in NM would be interested in starting an NMOK berghia breeding project.
As you may know, berghia are small nudibranchs that feed exclusively on aiptasia anemones, and are considered to be one of the best ways to control aiptasia outbreaks. You may also know that berghia are pretty expensive (about $15 each + shipping) and you may need a small herd of them if you have a larger tank.
That's why I'd like to see if there is interest to start an NMOK berghia breeding project, so that we could have a consistent local supply of these aiptasia killing machines.
I imagine the project would go something like:
* Make a large group order.
* Volunteers would setup breeding and food systems (ie. raise your own aiptasia).
* Once we have some decent breeding success, people who put in money will get their share of berghia.
* Other NMOK will have discounted access to berghia as the need arises.
* Hopefully more volunteers will breed even more.
It would require some effort and patience, but those of us with beautiful colonies of aiptasia would probably benefit a lot...
Here's an article about berghia by Anthony Calfo:

Here's some more info from one supplier:

Any interest???
