Berghia group buy?

Well, I'm finally considering getting rid of my aiptasias. As much as they old ones haven't bothered me over the past year, little ones starting to pop up here and there and I'll never be able to sell them like the corals that could be in that real estate. The smallest ones are the hardest to find too, and hitting them with a needle full of vinegar is too difficult when they disappear into the rock.

Would anyone be interested in doing a group buy for berghia nudibranchs? I would really only need 2 or 3 for my tank, but I imagine other people in the state need some too and don't want to pay for all the shipping costs and stuff. It looks like reeftown offers good prices on large lots of berghia, and they have free shipping for orders over $300. If we could get enough orders to add up to 40 small berghia, it would be enough for free shipping and come out to about $7.60 per nudibranch. 20 small berghia would only add up to 150 bucks or so, with 50 dollars shipping, so it would be about $10 per nudibranch. The medium sized ones cost a bit more, but they should breed sooner, so maybe people will want those instead.
I've never been in a group buy before, so if anyone has any ideas or suggestions I'd be happy to hear them. Even if we only get a small order and split the shipping cost, these things should breed in our tanks and we could probably spread them around to others who aren't taking part in the group buy. Maybe if we get enough of these, we could get rid of all the aiptasia in the state, haha.

I would be interested, but I don't have a ton of aiptasia (I say that now)... will they starve once it's gone, or do they eat anything else?

I may be interested in one or two because I read that.anything that ears aipstasia may eat hydroids and I've got loads of them!

Also curious what they will require for food?

Stepho, they only eat aiptasia. They're obligate aiptasia eaters, and if there are no aiptasia in your tank they'll starve to death within a week or two.

There was some guy on another forum who was trying to breed the nudibranchs. I remember he had a wanted post up for peoples aiptasias. I didn't want to give mine up at the time though, haha. I'm not sure how easy it is to breed aiptasia when you actually want them to grow. Clearly, they only appear in the places you don't want them.

So far I have lucked out and not seen any aipstasia in my tank. I'm shocked though because Colchester Pet Store has huge colonies of them in one of the LR tanks which I got some tonga branch out of.....maybe we should chip in and send them some of these guys lol.

Bummer that they don't eat hydroids. It seems that nothing does....so its just my luck my tank would be full of them lol

How big is your tank Bett? I currently have 1 berghia in my 75 and just the one is doing a great job of keeping the aiptasia numbers in check. I had quite a lot of them but as of late their numbers have been on a fairly steady decline. If your tank isnt huge I would only recommend getting 1 or 2 of them.

My tank is 20 gallons including my refugium. I got about 5 or 6 large aiptasia, and a bunch of tiny ones. I was only thinking about 3 berghia at most for myself, probably only 2. Apparently they do better hunting in groups.

I checked there, depending how many people want to join in, the unit price will be more expensive at salty underground even in larger numbers. If we get any less than 10 in all, then salty underground will probably be the better choice due to the shipping, but any more than that and reeftown will be cheaper with the lower price per nudibranch.

If we can get enough people to join in, they shouldn't be any more than 10 bucks each including shipping. If we can hit free shipping then they'll only be $7.50 each.
I'm not in a hurry either, so if we want to wait around for more people to join, I'm fine with that.
My aiptasia never die with a syringe. The closest I got to getting rid of the babies was hot water in a syringe, but they reappeared after 2 weeks.

Hey bob where did you get them from

I got mine from someone who ran out of aiptasia and was scrambling to get rid of it before it died. I would also like to get in for a few more. I could put another in my 75 and 1 in my frag tank so you guys can count me in for 2 when you get around to ordering
