Berghia Nudi Group Buy

So I have some good news and some bad news.
A local reefer generously allocated some berghia to me. I am in process of acclimating them now.
Many of them are adults that will be laying egg strands.

WHAT THIS MEANS: I will probably not join the group buy at this time. As I will have enough to culture eggs & treat my frags so I can put them back into my display tank.

WHAT THIS MEANS TO YOU & WCR
===============
STRATEGY 1
Hatch as many eggs as possible (I've already bought petri dishes for growing the small newborns)
I am hoping in 2~3 months to have some juveniles to pass around.
===============
STRATEGY 2
I may be able to spare a pair of juveniles (young adults) but the person must set up a separate quarantine tank and put "pest-dipped" rock or frags in that QT. This is to allow the juveniles a safe environment to breed & to eat the aiptasia without getting eaten by pods & bristle worms & brittle stars.

This also helps the eggs they lay to hatch safely in this QT. This will then allow you to move the "aiptasia-cleaned" rock or frags back to your main tank. This way, hopefully some of the "hatched" eggs will populate your display tank.

My guess is I can meet with Bob next Friday to see who wants to take on the daunting task of setting up a separate quarantine tank to treat aiptasia.

Took this picture a while back... This is when you know you have too much aiptasia... :)

The thing I liked the most about the Bergia is they are an in tank solution to the aptasia and when done correctly they dont need any special qt setup you just release them in a spot at night in the rockwork where they can get ahead of predators and build their population. I was able to have it work with three wrasses and a good population of pods and bristleworms. Mine ended up laying egg clusters all over, even in my overflow boxes. Good luck with the buy guys.

Did you introduce yours into your sump area or on your rock work in display tank?

I think my first attempt to put them in my in-sump frag tank area didn't do that well.... :)

I read that pods, bristles, brittle, and shrimp will eat newborn berghias. And I know I have a lot of predators... So I guess for me I am wary of putting them in and losing them all again. :). So my "bright idea" is to culture them so I get enough juvies to put into tank. :)

I put them in the big tank and the frag tank in the rockwork where they could hide from the big hungry things? The first time I tried them I wasnt thinking and released them in the open so I could "watch" them LoL. I wasnt the only one watching them. Within an hour they(2) were a couple of piles of fluff. Kind of an expensive lesson Doh. Next time I added them after lights out, in a crevasse and as a group. That did the trick and they flourished.
