Berghia Nudibranchs

you guys do know peppermint shimp eat aiptasia too right? yes, I know peppermint shimp is kinda hit and miss situation, but from the 8 shimp that I bought before and the 2 infested tanks that I have, they did the job VERY well, all aiptasia were cleaned out in 3 days. the shimp is cheaper, less hassle, even if it dies, buy more, $20 for 4. on the other hand, nudibranch is expensive, hard to get, need to baby it before putting in tank, acclimate and the whole nine yard, and if the aiptasia is gone, they die with it from staving. so if you have aiptasia again, you have to go through all the troubles again.

Just something to think about.

The problem i've had w/ Peppermint shrimp is when they are done w/ the Aptasia they move on to Zoanthinds/Palythoa I've seen a Peppermint shrimp come out of it's hiding spot pull a tentacle from a Paly and sit there and eat it.

I just wanted to try something diffrent.

Talking about this GB with few people and guys that have gotten these aptasia eaters some say the do not ship and adjust very well. With the cost per nudi being so high I'm sure several will die in shipping and thats going to cause some problems with people so something this difficult to ship may not be a good idea unless people willing to accept there may be loses . jmo

yea, because then when the shipment lands and everyone is expecting their nudis....... Open up the box and you have 50% of them still breathing you are going to be in a world of hurt. my .02

Anthony Calfo told me that the normal life span of a berghia is 6 months. That may contribute to the mortality you are seeing. I have no personal experience, just passing on what I heard.
