Berghia nudi's?

I was starting to have an aiptasia problem. I'd use Joes juice to keep them in check. One day I finally decided to a large Berghia .5-.75" nudi to my 55g system. I acclimated him, and gently put him in the system. I saw him for a day. This was about 3 months ago. Havent seen him since. Looking at the tank tonight I see three nudi's on the glass that look like the original Berghia. Could the original have laid eggs? From what I read though they can not self fertilize. My aiptasia also have subsided and I see no ill efects on my corals so I don't think they are predatory. Ill keep my eye on them though. Ill try to get a pic, Thanks.

the original one could have been carrying eggs from the tank it was in before then laid them in your tank.

You will not see them as they hide unless they cannot find aiptasia to eat. Still, they are doing their job and will reproduce. These are somewhat self containing. If you have aiptasia they will survive and breed and when it is gone they will disappear through lack of food.

I have an aptasia problem. Do they actually work. Everyone who sells them claims they work wonders but has anyone actually had success getting rid of aptasia using Berghias? How many were needed to do the job? I'm looking for actual real life experiences.

I had one that must have had eggs. I now have three that I have seen. My Aiptasia pop. has gone down considerably. They work. If you have a severe case add a few. They will feed propogate, and feed until the Aiptasia are gone. They can be then taken out so they dont starve and given to another member of a club, or taken back to the LFS to be recycled.

...and they're only $15 each! I think it's a pretty good deal.

To control pest through biological control is the thinking of 60s. Since then, scientists have learned through trial and error (and more errors) that you can not control a pest by another organism. You might notice that the aiptasia may reduce in numbers, but as soon as the slugs don't find enough food (=aiptasia) they will starve. You might know that it takes only one tiny blob of cells to grow one aiptasia, and where there's one, there's many - eventually.

Unfortunately romunov is right. I did the Berghia thing and they virtually disappeared. For a while. Now they are back. I am going to try peppermint shrimp next to see if that will work.
