I have a 180g tank around 4 months old now.30gsump live rock,4 mangroves, skimmer ect.i cycled it for 2 months befor i started putting anything in it.i slowly moved my corals from my 45g tank and thay are flurishing!!.so i figured it would be time to get into the fish side of reefkeeping.i bought some Damsels to start, then a couple clowns.Everything was going great so i bought a soome tangs and chromes, suddenly i started losing fish.the tangs and chromes died and a clown went soon after.levels are good
ph 8.2
cal 420
mag a little low 1100
phos .25
nitrite 0
nitrate 0
alk 3.5/9.8( i struggle understanding alk)
sal 1.25
I do have an outbreak of red coraline but as far as i know that just lowers mag and shouldnt kill fish..i suck some out daily i figured it will balance outover time. have been doing 20g changes every week
ANY IDEAS??? im dieing to have healthy tangs

By red coralline do you mean Cyanobacteria? Still won't harm fish.

Did you quarantine any new fish? Tangs are very disease prone and in order to keep them healthy long term all new fish must be quarantined in a bare hospital tank. Can you describe any abnormalities in behavior or appearance of the fish before they died?

My guess would be you added too many fish way too quick, especially with the tangs. They do far better once the tank has been established for a while. Add fish extremely slow to a new tank

I did not quarentine,i learned about that process after the fact.the only abnormality i saw was the blue tang looked sick and looked like he had a film on him.so i put him n the 45g tank with a copper pipe.thats when i started looking up fish issues.i guess i should have done more homework prior but you live and learn.thats why im doing it now so i can learn and move on and chalk it up to experience.

i dont know the teq name i just know its a nuesance i had it in my first tank in the beginning. eventually went away i had that tank for 1.5 years and figured it was time to learn more and expand to bigger better.here i am again with growing pains

chemiclean is usual pretty good to get rid of the cynaobacteria, certainly fish safe.

Are you getting the livestock from reputable local sources, chromis can even finicky sometimes and die fairly easy. I'd make sure your source has had the fish for a little while first.

i get all my supplies from a reputal fs,the only plroblem i can they see about them is they are so busy all there shipments come tuesdays and all those fish are sold by the weekend so they dont have the fish long enough to see if there is a problem.i just found another place in the area.i will check them out,im also going to get my quarentine tank ready and keep any fish i buy in there for a couple weeks.im doing as much homework as i can to figure this out.thanks for the help guys!!!

gonna want to qt your fish for 8 weeks, 2 will not do anything...prazipro and cupramine are great meds...cupramine= deadly to dwarf angels, if you go dwarf angel we can assist you along with cupramin...cupramine creates a deadly combination when used with Prime of similar product, so do not use it...
what size is qt?
no rock or sand in there- just pvc pieces...
best of luck!

Another suggestion (and it's going to be a bummer) but if you can resist buying more fish, let your tank mature for a little longer. For the sake of your future fish & wallet. It's taken me years & many fish to figure that out.

+1 to Ray & Huma's comments. Just curious, your damsels are still the last guys in there? What kind of tangs did you have & how many?

the qt tank is 45g.maybe i will set up a different qt tank cuz i like my 45g corner i dont want to take rock and sand out i was accually thinking of making it a jelly tank eventually.but im not ready for that yet..baby steps

so i put him n the 45g tank with a copper pipe
I have to ask - what is this about? You just put a piece of copper pipe in the tank with the fish?

The form of copper that people use to treat fish is pretty specific because it's safe and reliable. I don't know what could be leaching into that tank from a pipe. Also, you wouldn't have any way to control the amount getting to the fish. There is a fairly narrow range of dose between therapeutic and toxic.

lol, an old school method...we used to drop pennies in our tanks...
