best beginner cam

Hey all. I have a general question for those much more skilled at photography than I. I really want to get some nice close ups, and good pics. I am far from a photographer and have only use the "point and shoot stupid" cameras in the past. I want to invest in a nice camera but I need one that is relatively easy to learn to use. Just wanted some recommendations....
 
Read the DSLR sticky up top.

Pick a price range and then go to the store and handle all of the cameras in your price range. Buy the one that feels the most comfortable. Don't stress out about any other spec. Really.
 
im quite happy with my nikon d5000...does video and all that good stuff....but the big difference is the glass you put on front of it...
