Best chance for succes with several Blue Hippo Tangs?

I'm looking at a big tank and have seen a few pictures recently of several (4-5) Hippo Tangs in the same tank. I didn't think that was really possible until I saw the photos. I believe there was a 6' tank that had 5 and the rock structure was open to allow more swimming room and I want to setup a similar tank for these guys to be in my reef. I will be looking to get smaller ones, probably in the 2-3" range (or whatever the smallest size I can get where they have a better than average survival record) Other than the above, proper nutrition and having lots of flow, what else would you recommend. Would 3 or 4 be better? I don't really want 5 so that could be an issue. I'm also guessing they should all be added at the same time.

I should add that I am planning on buying a house in the next year or so and building an in wall monster tank that these guys can go into after this tank.

I just re-homed one that I thought was too big for my tank...a 6' 180, they grow fast.

I would wait until you build that tank, a lot can happen between then and now.

I've had a couple over the years and they didn't grow that much in 2 years.

If they outgrow this tank, I will find a suitable home.

My one friend with a 5000L (1320g) tank have 3 he started with 6 and after the years he had to remove 3 for aggresion problems

That doesn't surprise me but how many years did it take before they started getting too aggressive towards the others?

They're pulling it off darn well over at the London aquarium. This was from a tank that I'd guess is an 7-8' halfmoon that's 2-3 feet tall. Sorry, this was the only pic I had of the tank.

So I asked him once more this is the true facts

" 10 years had nine but only have 4 had to give 5 away as they matured "

And I had a 2" specimen that grew into a 5" size within 2.5 years in a 6' 180 gallon. He was so aggressive that he harassed a 7" blue throat trigger to death and I had to have him removed.

It's a lot of luck to find ones that would coexist with others. And catching one in a reef tank was a pain.

Just wanted to share my own experience.
