I have a 30long, 50lb LR, 2 1/2 CC substrate, and a single 250 65K Iwaski. I wanted to a single clam in the substrate, I will change to a dsb if needed (CC has caused to many problem as it is anyway). Ive never kept clams before and ive only got a few softies and polyps in the tank along with an orange nobby starfish, emerlad crab, CB shrimp, GS maroon clown w/ BTA, a coral beauty, and clean up crew.

thanks, Alex

Your tank is shallow enough, using a 250w halide, to support about any clam. Light-wise you should be fine, assuming the clam doesn't outgrow the tank! :) However, I'd be wary of the starfish. Some may think of the clam as a tasty meal.

Any clam should be fine. If your a little hesitant to try them go try to find a squamosa or derasa clam. They are a much easier clam to keep as they have more simple requirements. If those do well (cost around 20-25 each) you could try the more expensive maxima or crocea clams....
