best clam for my tank

I have a 29g and plan to get a clam sometime soon. I have 250w MH 14k pendant so lighting shouldn't be an issue. Considering that what type of clam should I start with? I know derasas are hardy but with the lighting is that still my best option? I've heard that its better not to get a tiny one so it will be able to get by on photosynthesis. Is this good advice?

Thanks!

sorry, must have slipped by.

with your lights you could keep any clam. the biggest concern would be the stability of your parameters. with the small volume of water you will need to be on the ball with your top up, calcium, alk, ph and salinity.

derasa's are considered hardier than other clams but grow quite large, so maybe not the best choice for a 29G. crocea's stay small but require the most light. ( you have enough light for any clam )

the smaller clams tend to have a higher mortality rate than larger clams. this doesn't have anything to do with dosing phyto, it is just an unfortunate fact.

dont mean to steal the thread here..didnt want to start a whole new one.

I'm gonna be getting the sunlight supply 4x39w T5 HO retro with Icecap reflectors to replace my 4x96w pc fixture on my 40 breeder.

I can keep clams with the new lights right? If so, would it be all clams or just certain kinds? And what are the maxima's like? I like those ones the most but i dont really know much about care on them.
