guys i can't seem to find a concrete explanation on what i should be running with this ushio bulb.....

also what makes the 250 hqi setting on an electronic ballast an hqi setting? is it the amount of wattage? is so how much wattage make sit an hqi setting?

I have no experience running halides on electronic ballasts...so I'm not sure this applies, but..

I can tell you that back when most of us just ran magnetic ballasts for halides for the 250 watt single-ended lamps (which were mostly probe start lamps) we used ANSI M58 ballasts. For double-ended lamps we used ANSI M80 ballasts (often called "HQI") which had a higher starting voltage to ignite the lamp. If memory serves I think the M80 ballasts consumed a bit more power too.

So...if you're running DE lamps I'm assuming you would need to run the HQI setting as (IIRC) these lamps have no starting probe and need the higher starting voltage to ignite/perform correctly.

That's just going from memory...maybe someone else here can correct/add to that.

If you're going electronic you'd be best off running a Luxcore 400w selectable (250-400). The Luxcore 250 selectable (150-250) will run the lamp at a lower wattage on the same given wattage selection compared to the 400w version. So if you're running 250w on the 250 and 250w on the 400, you will get more light output out of the 400.
