Best Frag Tank Ever

I would like to build a small frag tank, something under 40 gallons. There are a few options, wanted to see what you guys think. I'm looking for something that is super easy to maintain.

First option is to simply take a 40 breeder (36''x18''), add 1 or 2 Radions on it, nice MP40 and lay the egg crate out inside with bare bottom and live rock underneath the egg crate. Add a single fish in there, a doser and that's pretty much it.

Another option is to look for a 40g Innovative Marine cube - this way I got some option for an overflow.

I could also do the option #1, but drill it and setup a second 40 gallon underneath. But that's definitely a lot more hassle.

Look at the coral propagation section, lots of cool frag tanks....I made a 20 gallon frag tank out of pvc that is super easy to maintain for around $65 at lowes. The more shallow, the easier to light the tank.

That looks great. How did you plumb the return/overflow?

So if I pick up a 30 breeder, for example, how would I go about filtration - do I need to plumb it or would I be able to get away with just a hang-on-the-back skimmer/filter of some sort? I don't intend to keep more than 1 fish in there.

Started wanting a 40 gallon shallow frag tank... ended up with a 150 lol

It's kind of sad, never thing I'll get close to filling it up...

I've found shallow frag tanks to be WAY more user friendly. I had a couple of 'regular' tanks before I made a 2'x2'x1' tank. It has been much easier to work in.

We made ours 16" tall, with most frags sitting on racks. It's a great height to work in.

Started using a standard 55 gallon as our personal frag tank... it was terrible to work in...
