Best HOB Skimmer?

I'm looking for a hang on the back protein skimmer for my 35g hex tank. So I'm limited by width, about 8" or so is max to allow room for other wires and stuff.
I want no bubbles back in the tank, as little noise as possible, and the pump in the skimmer would be nice.

So, what's the best HOB skimmer?

Thanks,

Steve

I'd love to know too. I am told that Coralife is no good, of which I now own two, the 65g and 120g. I plan on using the 65g on my 40B.

I have a cheap sky one on my 35 hex and I'm happy with it, pulls pretty good skimmate took a bit to tune in tho.

Im pretty pleased with my reef octopus bh2000 on a 55g. Once it breaks in I get hardly and bubbles and it's not very loud.

Deltec MCE600..... Actually an MCE300 would be fine for that tank. There was no 300 when I got mine so I had to get the 600 on my 29gal in 2004/2005 timeframe

I say this after experience with 3 other inferior models.....

+1

I just got the reef octopus bh2000 and I love it. As said before the bubbles at first were a pain but now no bubbles and man does it pull some nasty stuff.

I'm reading good things about the AquaC Remora. Anyone have one and want to offer their opinion?

It comes with either the Rio+800 or the Maxi-Jet 1200.............which is the better pump?

If I go that route, I'd also get the skimmer/overflow box as well.

Has anyone ever put their heater in the skimmer, on the return side?

The Reef Octopus BH1000 would work for me, I'm limited in width due to the hexagon tank. 8" or less in width is what I'm limited to.

I have an aquamaxx hob on my solana. Works great and is fairly quiet. build quality is fantastic. I also used a cpr aeroforce and thought it was quite good too but the aquamaxx is better.

I have the aquac remora and I think it does a great job. It can be noisy at times but depends on your pump. Id go with the maxijet over the rio. Pulls nasty gunk from my tank and no adjustment needed.

I looked this morning but when I saw that you were limited to 8" I knew I wouldnt be able to help... havent used any small skimmers that would fit. Sometimes people view your thread and arent able to help so they dont post anything.

That is the draw back of a hex tank, by limiting myself to one panel for equipment it's only 10-1/2" of total space for all of it.

I'm leaning towards the AquaC Remora with the Maxi-jet 1200, I'm thinking I'll get the skimmer/outflow box as well. The 6" width works perfect for my setup. And it seems with some simple mods it can be damn near silent.

Now to find one used on here, Ebay, or buy new.

MCE600 is the best HOB skimmers. Quite and powerful. It maybe too wide for you. But it is the best. Think about it if you can adjust space.

It's 12" wide, and my space is only 10.5" wide.............so that is a no go. Not to mention the $550 price tag.
