looking to get a large angle.. i have seen them done in many mixed reefs before.. i have a 100 gallon and 150 gallon sump in the basement.. am planning on putting the fish in there for a few months while young and get it used to eating prepaired foods before moveing it up tot he tank.. tank will be a 292 gallon. I love the emperor.. that is my first choice. but also consider the blue face and blue band i think its called.. anyone have opions.. thanks...

I know that the Genicanthus angels are 99.99% safe, and they are really nice. I like the watanabei. Also regals will eat zoos and some fleshy lps but thats about it. I know this tank of the month has a majestic angel in his tank

Probably the best large angel for a mixed reef is a Red Sea regal. The emp, blue face, and majestic are other safer large angels depending on the corals you want to keep.

I am in the same boat as you but my tank is 280 gal.
I was looking for the "safeness" of the emperor, queen or blueface.
Anyone have experence would be great.

Queen? Forget it.

Blueface IMO probably a little, teeny, tiny bit safer than the imperata, but they are both coin flips.

I currently have a queen in a mixed reef. The only thing it ever bothered was bright zoos(orange and Red) and it massacred a pulsing zenia frag in about 5 mins. I did get him young though and feed very well. You have to experiment. When I want a new coral I'll put a small frag in first to try it out. Good luck

Really depends on what you have. Personally I don't and haven't kept LPS. Gave my sister a maculousus and it went to town on her LPS. Didn't touch anything in my tank.

My experience is based on clams, SPS and softies only. I agree with the queen. Not a good choice. I did have one that did not touch SPS, clams or softies but I think that was a rarity. Blueface 1 out of the 3 I had was a pain in the @!#$%@$. He now resides in a co-workers tank with a grouper and eel. Emperor, majestic, asfur, bluespot, flagfin, regal, personifer, maculousus and chrysurus have all behaved for me.

And as Black71gp knows I am not trying my big goldflake with SPS.

lol... ya.. well do you still have any of those large angels in your tank.. i think my favorite is the emperor so i can get a young one for around 40-50..so might just go with up..

Emperors are pretty safe, although I have heard some that like the LPS. No, the biggest angel I have right now is that goldflake. After moving that 300 3 times I decided to wait to make sure I'm staying in this house for quite a while. I do have flagfins, bluespots, regals, goldflakes, etc. But none of the larger ones.

ya i figure a small enough one.. and then raise him eating prepared foods and feed him good.. might be alright.. and well i just wont have zoas if he likes those.. not a big fan of those anyway.. i like lps clams and sps.. and some softies.. we will see...

In my experience majestic and blueface angels are not reef safe. Goldflakes are better but they can still eat corals if they want to, mine did. I have seen emperors in SPS tanks, but they seem to eat softies. For a reef tank I would pick a red sea regal. They are gorgeous and personable fish, plus they stay away from my corals.

red sea regal is nice.. i would like a larger angle though.. i am thinking emperor.. thats my number one choice..
