My tank is 36 inches long, 18 inches wide, and 24 inches tall. It's a FOWLR with 3 blue-green chromises, 2 ocellaris clowns, 2 firefish, 3 banggai cardinals, 1 royal gramma, 1 dwarf flame angel, and 1 orchid dottyback.
I don't have corals or anemones but eventually one day I will probably want to. Someone suggested this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00INM0J1M/?tag=aqualedlight-20
Is this too small? There's an unremovable 1.5 inch-wide plastic strip running across the top of the tank, from the front to the back - it could obstruct the light? Would I have to hang it high above the tank in order for the light to penetrate throughout the entire volume of the tank? (The fixture is only 8x16). Are there any good LED fixtures that you don't have to hang from the ceiling?
Eventually, would a fixture like this be strong enough for SPS but weak enough to not damage the more sensitive less-demanding corals?
Obviously I have a lot more research to do about corals and I won't be getting them for a long time. But meanwhile I want to get a light that will work long-term.
Also (hopefully not opening a whole can of worms here) - but I'm not necessarily losing out on anything by using LEDs instead of T5HOs, right?
