Best LED Fixture for the price

What do you guys think the best controllable fixture is for the price point (for use on a 40B). I'm hoping to not spend over 300.

Imo I would run 2 on a 36 inch tank. I think fish pros 57 is under lit. Looking at there tank it convinced me not to use rapids but dragonvale has convinced me to rethink that.

Just bought a controllable 24" fixture from reef radiance. 319 shipped. Good reviews all around. Going on my 40b

I would suggest the ocean revive s026 I love these lights and they have good coverage on my tank. Check the sponsor forums can't beat the price at $179 and they pack a punch.

Those look awesome. Would one be enough coverage for a 40 though? Or should I go for the OR-IT2060 (the 24 inch)?

Here's my thoughts and take it with a grain of salt. I'm just going to point items out and you can compare. One thing that stood out to me with Onyx is their statement, "The ONYX has comparable, if not higher, PAR than an AI SOL and a broader color spectrum". In order to keep that statement it has to be true. Also pricing between the two is different.

***Next warranty for an Onyx

•Warranty: 18 months. We absolutely stand by our product! Thus, if the lights stop working after 18 months but is within a 5 year window from purchase date, we will replace/fix the unit for a flat fee of $75 + shipping

***Heat sink/keeping the LED's cool means longer life span

1 inch thick anodized heatsink for the Onyx

*** Brand of LED's used in the fixture

•14 CREE XT-E Royal Blue
•8 CREE XP-G Cool White
•4 SemiLEDs Violet UV
•1 CREE XP-E Green
•1 Oslon 660nm Red

I want to say but just assuming true 3 watt leds for a total use of 84 watts and 6 watts for the fan?

*** power usage

Onyx takes 90 watts for the fan and 28 Leds.

*** Lens used on LED's

If you want deeper penetration you generally go with lower angled lens. 25" deeper 60 degree lenses.

I ran the reefbreeders value for a bit. Cool for the price and what it is. I was new and so I thought it was great. Then moved to the IT2040 I picked up from rarend99 who switched to a t5/led hybrid and had better success with that. After looking at a lot of other tanks running different setups, I realized that the colors on some stuff left a lot to be desired. Switched to the kessils knowing I was going to add T5's to them and before adding the t5's the same colors were still pretty bland. Added the t5's and within two weeks started seeing much better reds, oranges and yellows. The Xmas favia I got from you looked horrible as an example. Really subdued colors and hadn't noticed a once of growth. Once under the t5's and LEDs together, it's colored up very nicely as well as it's finally showing some signs of growth.

The FishPros tank is a hard comparison and a bad baseline for the onyx too. Nothing thrives, grows, or a lot of the time even survives in that tank, it's due for a serious renovation but it looks like it would be enough light for the stuff you have at the moment, and give you time to save up for another fixture if you were to go that route.

The light I'm giving you is ****, but it works fine. If I was you I would run it with some new bulbs, order up a couple long heatsinks from rapid, and add some LEDs on dimmable drivers to each side of it. Drivers are like $30, LEDs about $3.50 and a 1.4x24" heatsink is $22. So about $80 per strip of CREE LEDs with your choice of lens. . After running the Crees I would never run bridgelux again. I have one strip already wired up with rb and uv I'll be adding into my canopy but if you want to barrow it and check it out, I can drop it off on Monday with your tank.

The reason I went bridgelux was due to the fact that I ran my old cree fixture at 30 to 50% over a 16" deep tank without optics and it was really bright.

Brudgelux with optics does fine at 70% on a 28" deep tank. I still have to start SPs on the bottom.

The second reason is color. Cree is very complex in their binning and labelling you have to be really educated about light to get the right led... There is more than spectrum and brightness here.

The ocean revive is full spectrum so the color is there, you can swap LEDs and optics for very cheap if you want, and it costs less than diy.

It would take 2 s026 to cover your tank. They have new models now though.

I did lots of research, I reccomend doing the same. The trick seemed to be to look for negative reviews. :)
