Best LEDs?

Who makes the best led fixture? Money no object?

Who makes the best led fixture? For the buck?

The answer to these questions is NOT ME! I want a plug any play solution.

i recommend ecotechs radions. they are great. AI's are nice too but i dont like the fact i needed 4 to cover a 4 ft tank. i only needed 2 radions and imo they look way nicer then AIs. also if you have ecotech pumps you can have them talk to your lights. for example when its night time the pumps dial down to simulate calmer waves/currents in your personal ocean.

Ive ordered 3 of the upcoming GHL Mitras, this to me looks the best, but its based on the spec sheet not actually using them.

I can tell you from my experience, avoid lights with just w;b;rb mix these made my SPS look off by missing some color spectrum in the red/pink area. blues and greens were phenominal.

Best bang for the buck is the Maxspect Razor I think for commercial fixtures. I also think it is stronger than a Radion and would provide better growth for less money. Best bang overall are the chinese "3w" led fixtures. The prices are outstanding, and the quality on them is surprisingly good.

I do like red/green leds for visuals though. The white:blue only fixture I have doesn't have the extra visual pop some reds and greens provide.

Still cannot beat building your own fixtures and putting whatever leds you want for your own preference which is why I am building a 8 CHANNEL dimming led monster which I will control each individual CHANNEL with the apex I possess.

That's like asking who is the hottest girl or whats the prettiest coral.. Your going to get many opinions.. None are right

+1. I wouldn't classify as right or wrong however, more along the lines of what's the best choice per application.

I personally have Radions, but I feel there's something missing. Some of my corals look terrible, while others look great.

I wouldn't rule out the Kessil lighting options either. Great light in a small package.

For each light fixture, they will have their own advantages/disadvantages. My suggestion is always to visit a store to check out the LED options and don't only go with what others have to say. We all see light a little differently, so what one person likes, you may hate.

Interesting D-Nak, what do you feel is missing from the radions?

I can't pinpoint it exactly. Some of my SPS don't look as nice as they used to, such as my Idaho grape and my pink birdsnest (both look bland now and used to pop under halide). I'm fairly certain it's not my water parameters since I use dosers to keep everything fairly consistent. I know there's a debate over UV, and other possible missing spectrums, but I can't speak to this since I haven't done enough research. At this point, I am planning to add a set of T5 daylight bulbs to try to even out the color, as well as mitigate some of the mirror-ball effect that the Radions produce (though out of all of the panel-type LEDs, I think the Radions look the most like halide in terms of light dispersion).

Check out the kessil special blend. So far that's the only led spectrum I've seen without a ton of red/orange light.

I found the same with my birdsnest and other red corals, like my reverse superman turned orange under my ilumina. I added a actinic and fiji purple to supplement and bang colors came back!

Im hoping the mitras coming will be a big step forward with the colors it has, just saw this morning the LEDs in it.

12 x Cree XP-E blue
12 x Cree XT-E cool white
12 x Cree XT-E royal blue
6 x Cree XT-E neutral white
6 x Osram Oslon SSL true green
6 x Osram Oslon SSL yellow
6 x Osram Oslon SSL red
6 x Osram Oslon SSL hyperred
6 x hyper violet 425 nm

I'm looking at the Mitras as well. Very expensive but looks like it might fit the bill in terms of a better light mix. I'm willing to bet that we'll start seeing used Radions on the market if the Mitras lives up to the hype. However, if the software is only accessible via the Profilux, that's a deal breaker for me since I have an Apex and don't plan on giving it up anytime soon.

It would be a bad move by ghl if you have to have a profilux to use the software. I doubt they went that path. I hope they didnt !
