Best LFS in Fort Wayne?

Who do you recommend and what has been your experience with them. Who should I stay far away from? Thanks for the input!!!

it all depends what you are looking for. Live rock - I like the pet store off of stellhorn. Fish and coral - I like either CR or PW. Broadway isn't bad but i always forget about them.

I like all of them for various things also, though I try not to buy any dry goods from any of them as they are easily double any online supplier. I also vouch for Premium Aquatics in Indy. They have limited store hours but their prices can't be beaten and the ability to go in and root through their 500g live rock tanks and hand pick your rock is a huge bonus. The only problem is, is the drive to indy.

For saltwater, Coral Reef Aquarium is the best. For freshwater, Broadway Aquatics is the best. I'm not a big fan of Pet Warehouse as their advice has proven deadly to many of my friends aquariums; both fresh and saltwater.

How true. Sorry to have left that out before. I don not generally trust anything that Pet Warehouse tells me. I do get some good info from Coral Reef from time to time.

The best thing to do is find a local person that you trust that is in the hobby because they want to be, not to make money off of it.

You have to watch closely though. Pet warehouse has the hydro korilla pumps cheaper than foster and smith right now. and you have to always consider shipping. If I only need one item, i will buy it locally, if I have several to get, online is the only way to go.

Hey guys I am in Indy and did not realize there were that many saltwater shops in FT. Wayne. What can you tell me about them? How many, what is genereal coral going for and such, thanks. I may have to head that way soon.

It all depends on which shop you go to and what the coral really is. If you live close to indy I have heard about some great shops down that way. If nothing else you have got premium aquatics close by.

Oh yea spent probably 10 grand there in the last three years. Just need something different or some new places to trade some frags.

I was in Coral Reef today and picked up a couple nice frags....a duncan whisker coral for $25 single polyp and a two polyp head of blasto for $15. Klaus has started fragging his own stuff up and has some really nice frags of zoas and stuff

Also you should always pay with cash when you shop with Klaus. It has a tendency to get you a little better price from time to time.

Really??? I never thought about that. Hmmmm interesting how does one approach him with a cash price.....he has some nice zoa frags that if the price were right.....

i love coral reef but the one thing that he needs to do is to post the pricing of his items somewhere, its annoying when he is helping other people to have to wait some time just to find out the price of something. Ive bought most of my stuff from klaus but his pricing needs to be clearer and more up to date.

Appearently not. We all keep going back knowing what to expect and it hasn't stopped us yet. If his prices are posted then they are solid. But with not posting he can shoot from the hip

i disagree just cause a price is posted doesn't mean that the price is set in stone. It seems that for the most part he Klaus sales the duncans at 40.00/head. It is his option to give people discounts at any time. And no im not complaining about his prices. I purchased a real nice duncan from him for 40.00 with two heads and a third head starting to pop. I just think that if there was a consistent pricing structure it would be possible for people to shop and also allow his dad to do more then just bag items. Was in there one day and and klaus had gone somewhere and his dad did not know the price of anything that was not marked, even common items like some snails, makes it kind of hard to shop when your told to wait 30mins till klaus comes back or leave and come back in 30 mins.

I paid $25 a head for the short tentacle polyp duncan though when I got home and put it in my tank it expanded to the same size as the long tentacle duncan I paid $65 for from PetWarehouse a few weeks ago. The long tentacle duncans were $40. He has prices listed beside that tank that he has the duncan frags and the blasto frags in. He was saying he has been buying corals wholesale and fragging them up himself and selling them. I hope that means that we are in for some nice pieces as he expands his selection.
