Hello everyone, I live in Monroeville, and Elmers is the place I go to the most just because its right down the street, I was wondering if there is any other good fish stores in the area, THANKS!!!

In no particular order:

Wet Pets in Peter's Township
Aquaworld on rt 65
Seahorse on Rt 8

I am probably forgetting some too

Check out PMAS.org and there is a listing of supporting stores.

Yeah, I'm right up the street from them, and I'm in there pretty often, Do you know anything about there discount tuesdays, does that include livestock???

there's under the sea in cranberry....there's a little hole inthe wall shop on murray ave call auarium connection he's not a bad guy to deal with..i can give directions if you want them...

Oh--I forgot one--a "smaller" shop but great--Atlantis. Gary has just about the best selection for "after entry-level" reefers and beyond.

My thoughts on Atlantis...

Admittedly I have not been there in 2 or so years:

But last time I was there:

(3) visits Gary was MIA a lady who knew nothing about aquariums but liked to smoke was holding down the fort (his mother?)

There was VERY little livestock. There was a small selection of dry goods scattered among a LOT of shelves.

NOTHING (livestock or dry goods) was priced and the lady did not know the prices.

I got the feeling that prices were determined at the time of sale and most "sales" were by appointment, as Gary was out doing client calls most of the time. In other words an aquarium maintenance company with a part time storefront, not an LFS.

My feelings have been verified by others who have had the same experience. Out of frustration, I never made a forth trip, and never will. There are simply too many other places that have much more livestock and actual daily store hours where you can purchase goods, not just window shop.

That's the one. It's definitely not as organized as most. zz just went there and had the same experience.

I met him through ebay---and have had great experiences buying quality pieces from him.

I guess the sad part is that I think he's the best we have around here!!

As an outsider, working in Pittsburgh for several months no, I've been making the rounds and visiting every shop I could find. I haven't purchased anything here but, on stock and appearances, I was really impressed by Seahorse on 8.

Just to let everyone know incase your looking for some good things, I was just at Aqua World and they have in some nice Micromussa, Acanthastrea, Blastomussa, and lots of Acropora frags. It's probably worth a visit.

I like Seahorse, too. Knowledgeable staff. Its a family operation and they actually "quiz" you before they'll see you livestock, i.e. tank size, time set up, other inhabitants, so that you don't buy something incredibly wrong. I was actually just there this afternoon. i do worry about the small size of the holding tanks, but their turn-over seems pretty good, so maybe I'm just a worry-wart.

Pet Supplies + on McKnight isn't bad either...but livestock and reef items are limited. But for common supplies, they're great!

I was just at seahorse today and they really have great livestock right now. tons of fish.
Also, Elmer's has a bunch of nice frags at 14.99. A few nice frags of zoas and some others. Their 34.99 tank has some really great pieces too. I don't think I'm going to get corals any where else anymore, Elmer's really has a great selection and unbeatable prices. I'm tired of places expecting 89.00 + for something that you can get at elmer's for 34.99.
I've never had anything bad happen with something that I bought there either. Has anyone?

I live about an hour and half north of Pitt and I wish I knew where some of these places were. I'd make a road trip. Any of the good ones easy to get to from rt 79?

"Under the sea" is probably the easiest for you to get to. THey are on rt19 bewteen Zelienanople and Cranberry. "Sea Horse" is close to the turnpike entrance on rt 8 in Gibsonia. Other places are harder to describe and are all much further south - but maybe worth the drive if your looking for something specific.

How far are you from cleveland?

Salty Critter would be worth the drive, especially if it is just as close as any of the Pittsburgh stores.

Well I live in Jamestown, which is right between Erie and Pitt, right on the Ohio Pa line. I've been to Pitt drinking before, so I know how to get there, but never Cleveland. I could look it up on a map but only if it's worth going to. Most places around here have tons of brown corals!!! The brown corals are my favorite... not!
