Best looking Atlantic Blue Tang what a beast

wow...he is supernice...really healthy...like it when he presses up against the glass and you can see the indentation of his skin....

Amazing fish but is it just me or does anyone else feel kinda bad that the tank seems unbelievably small for that size fish?

Definitely a beast. And also, not the greatest color TBH. I saw them while snorkling in the Cayman Islands... they are MUCH darker blue normally. I think the paler color is an indication of the stress from the tank size... IMO.

I have seen quite a bit of variability in the color of Atlantic Blue Tangs when I have seen them while diving. Some brilliant dark blue while others where much paler.

Alot of assumption with the last few posts. The biggest problem with reef central. No one who posted has a glimpse of an idea of what is reality of this fish.

Actually- it's not a problem. It's an asset when experienced aquarists can comment meaningfully.
If a picture is worth a thousand words a video is worth as much or more.
The fish in that video is stressed, breathing heavy and is too large for the aquarium.

Now, you're going to choose to comment on OUR observations?
Do you know anything about the fish in the video?

Problem? I'd prefer honest and thought out feedback over a bunch of "Awesome!"s any day.

I will admit I was wrong, somewhat, on the color comment... going back through my photos, I did see tangs with such color in the wild too, just like Ken mentioned. However, I am pretty sure it was because those 3 were being cleaned by wrasses...

Teach us, oh wise one!
:lolspin:

Peter- did you take those pix? Very nice. Look at that fat one!

We all know most (all?) Acanthuriids can change color...
but there's a REASON they do.

I've seen this species in the ocean as well, and captive specimens rarely (if ever) look as good as wild ones. Aquarium size is often part of the problem- these guys need room!

Juvis are usually what's offered for sale at the LFS.

I did take those pics, thanks. Looking at that last photo, you can see the wrasse cleaning the tang on the right (on his dorsal fin). Fish are known to change color at such "cleaning stations".
