Best meds for ick

Yeah dude, sorry to hear about your loss but unfortunately it happens to us all. Like it was said before, sometimes we receive the fish in a state that's irreversible and wonder what we did wrong or could have done to avoid it. Just try to remember everything you did and continue to read a lot and use that as experience for the next time.

Sorry to hear that Austin. Curing any fish depends very often on how soon the disease is detected and how soon treatment begins. An advanced infection is almost always fatal. I don't think the fish had ammonia toxicity as I have never seen it cause scale loss. It strictly is a matter in that it inhibits normal respiration of this toxin from the gills and the fish dies of internal poisoning mainly from alkalosis. There is a slight possibility that the fish could maybe have had a advanced case of Brooklynellosis (aka. Clownfish disease). This sometimes will cause lesions to form on the body. Once again, if it was that disease immediate treatment with a formalin dip might have saved it but it is often not detected soon enough.

I'm not saying the fish was suffering from ammonia toxicity. I'm saying that all fish are subjected to toxic levels of ammonia for a very brief period when they are first first acclimated to the dealers tanks. I'm saying that the stress and damage this causes is a major reason fish come down with a wide range of ailments.

Well I went back to the LFS and they had one True Sebae left. It had a slight gash in one side with scales missing also. The fish guy said he thought it was a type of gout.

 Gout? Then take two aspirin. :D

I'd stay away from that fish too. You don't want beat up fish that "could have been a contenda";) in your tank.
