Best Mp40 mode for a SPS tank

For you fellow reefers out there who use two mp40's what have you felt has given your sps the best flow mode, for optimium growth?

Please let me know if you have them in anti-sync or non anti-sync mode.

And finally are your pumps across from each other or are they on same side?

I have a 90g with 2 mp 40w they are across from each other and I like to run them in full power lagoon mode anti sync.

I have 2 ran on long pulse mode anti sync one on each side of the tank. I feel that way they are at 100% the longest. Other modes the pump is barely ever at 100%.

I emailed the company and they said for SPS it was best to have them on each end, anti-sync, in ReefCrest. That was their opinion for SPS.

4 in mp40s in my 175 I run 12h day on lagoon 100% and reefcrest 12h night 100%

the mp40 in my 90 runs reefcrest 100% all the time with a koralia 1400 on the other side.

Long pulse mode. I remember a post about how Eco-tech didn't understand why so many people run reefcrest mode. The graph for it looks like what you want at first, but it spends most of it's time at 50% power in reality. For a while I thought I needed a second mp40 for my 90 sps tank, but after ditching reedcrest and going to long pulse, it was WAY better, especially on the far side/middle of the tank.

Thanks everybody for answering so quickly!

So your pumps would be master at purple and slave at orange, both at 100%.

I run mine in reef crest mode, seems to be working well so far.
Yours are running master at yellow and slave at orange, are yours at 100% as well?

So yours would be master is pink and slave is orange. Does your master blink in pink?

Well interesting that you say that because when I called them to learn how to anti-sync mode, I explained that I had a mostly sps one year old tank.
They guided me to setup the following. Master is blue and slave is orange. Master is at about 90% and slave at 75% to 85%. My master is blinking in blue. Does this mean I am on short pulse?

4 in mp40s in my 175 I run 12h day on lagoon 100% and reefcrest 12h night 100%
Oh now this is interesting, I did not know that you could change the mode will in "night mode".

the mp40 in my 90 runs reefcrest 100% all the time with a koralia 1400 on the other side.
I took off my 4 korallia's and so far it looks like the tank is getting ample flow throughout.

Overall I have noticed better polyp extension on ALL of my sps's. The polyps do puplse from side to side. Not smoothly but rather quicker. Maybe I can post a quick video so that you can see what I mean.

Yep.

Yes you are in short pulse anti sync. If you tune the lingth of you pulse on the master you can make a side to side wave in this mode. I don't as it puts alot of stress on the tank.

ahh I have my 3 running , one on one side color green mode full speed ahead and across the tank opposite side i have one same height as the first in yellow full speed to mix it up a little and on the same side lower i run another in yellow mode full speed in the a.m and purple full speed at p.m, hope that makes sense the water is well stirred lol..nice units

2, running lagune mode, they arent sync, i find that having them run seprate creates more random flow patterns, and my sps seems happier. they are on each side of the tank, across from each other.

How can I tune the length of the pulse on the master?

Yes you are in short pulse anti sync.

I thought SPS didn't like waves?

Wow you certainly sound as though you have enough flow! I have yet to setup night mode.

Sounds good as well!

I wish their manual would go into more details.Unless I am the dummy here who can't understand. Mind you it is a good manual just a little short on details. I will continue to look at it and read it a few more times to grasp the jist of it.
Looks like the lagoon mode uses the pumps max flow more than reef crest mode. Is this right?

How can I tune the length of the pulse on the master?

by turning the nob on the driver left to shorten and right to lengthen the pulse. Tune it in and you can get a wave. But like I said it puts alot of stress on the tank itself. But it is fun to show people every once in awhile:rollface:

Not sure on your question. Most sps are in areas that get lots of wave action.
You have mp40's what are you running the on?

Sorry I probably typed to fast, let me rephrase. I had read on another thread that sps do not like waves, and most people use reefcrest or lagoon mode, not sure if it is true or not or maybe I am confused. I am not keeping sps right now only softies and lps, only running 1 mp40 in my 90 gal at 100% soft pulse and I am getting an 1"-2" wave.

I used to run Reefcrest but since I updated to the ES model I'm running Nutrient Export Mode. I like this better bc my Vortech are maxed out most of the time. They start with short pulse, then long pulse, then constant.

That is one of the reasons why I will upgrade ultimately eventually to the ES.
