Best Mp40 mode for a SPS tank

short pulse, full power, 2 Mp40W ES. I have them placed staggered in my tank, meaning one is higher and one is lower, and one is in the back and 1 in the front. I can create sort of a back and forth motion for my SPS, I get pretty good PE on corals ^^-

I emailed the company and they said for SPS it was best to have them on each end, anti-sync, in ReefCrest. That was their opinion for SPS.

They said me Lagoon mode for me shallow SPS. (humilis, stylo, pocis, etc)

I ran reef crest for awhile but have recently been using tidal swell mode. Tidal swell keeps both pumps operating at a higher flow rate than reef crest, it stirs up my sand from time to time but it's more chaotic as the flow shifts from one side to the other

I originally ran reefcrest at 100% on my 65, but it was always running really low on that mode so I switched to lagoon mode at about 70-75%...it pumps more at the higher end and the flow gets to all of my tank better.

TSM all the way!! ES is great! I used to run a wave in the tank with 2x vortech mp40w ES one on each side of the tank on a 75 gallon. I recently switched to TSM and its night and day.

I tried the lagoon / reefcrest at 100% on my tank and the flow wasnt enough, and I only have a 75gal.

I run Tidal swell mode at 100% on each vortech and the slave is set to be on the other side of the tank. Purple master Leftside / Orange slave Rightside

By the way, How do you run a different mode every 12 hours? I know how to set up the 'sleep' function but how can you actually change the mode?

i honestly think switching modes is the best, i run reef crest and lagoon every other day and then every day i let it run in constant for 2-3 hours and it stirs up all types of detritus and with the help of a filter sock it keeps the water crystal clear.......i also use night mode sometimes (usually i switch the night mode every other month)) and sometimes ill put it in long pulse at the wave i have set for nighttime.........................i mean we stare at our tanks every day how hard is it to tap the mode button a couple times every day

....................and as a side note has anyone noticed that in lagoon mode (purple) at 90-100% the pump gets REALLY hot, i know eco-tech says that the pump can get up to either 120 or 130 degrees, and to watch out touching it as it can be very hot and that its completely fine to run hot, but it still scares me and i run it at about 80-85% now

I have been running my tank on reefcrest for 2 years and it is doing well. One on each side and 125 gallon.

How is your sps growth?
And are you running your pumps at 100%?

Even though I have mp40 gen 2 within a few mintues of pump 1 being placed I notice HUGE polyp extension On my acros with constant mode running. Another thing that makes me even happier is that the fight I was having keeping mushrooms away from my sps, the mushrooms don't like the bigger flow hitting them. Goes to show ya that even with 4 koralias and 2 1200 MJ the flow in my tank was not enough.

Interesting I was told to short pulse and not that I don't trust them but I figure everybody out here certainly had some input.

You must have the ES model right?

Doesn't the pumps run automatically from nigt mode to day mode?

Funny I did that the simple press button and watched how the corals reacted.

I have another question,
Are long and short pulses the only modes that flucuate in pump speed? I know that the blue mode on my ( short pulse ) master flashes on and off.

I do not know quantify. I donร‚ยดt have anybody to compare. I notice that all grow some more than others around the aquarium. I also have problems with CA and MG, I'll start to solve with balling.

Regards.

You cant specifically Change the modes in night mode. the only thing night mode does is turn down the maximum pump speed for the total length of selected hours and speeds. The mode itself never changes.

yes i hope i didnt mislead anyone what i meant is that i use night mode for a month, then for another month at like 9pm ill switch to the long pulse wave i have stored, its a slow gentle pulse for like 30 seconds then nothing for 30 seconds...........even though its a pain to switch modes at night then back in the morning i still do, as usually i look at the tank nightly and give it a quick glance before work in the morning, and if i miss a night here and there its ni big deal, as my whole idea is to stay random and chaotic with the flow

sorry, i have a question. i do not have a vortech yet. my tank is a 40 breeder mix reef. Is 1 mp10 good enough or should go with 2? limited budget here. thanks.

You can use different modes using an Apex WXM module. I use lagoon mode during the beginning and end of the day and use TSM during the day. During the first half of the day I run at 70% TSM and 90% TSM in the afternoon/evening and night mode at night. :)

I just was able to go into night mode last night for the 1st time since installing the pumps. From what the manual says if you are running at 80% reef crest mode then at night you get 40% constant mode, another example would be if you are running short pulse mode at 100% then night mode will produce 50% constant mode.
So the only way to get more control is to adjust your day mode.
Does the new ES allow for more adjusting of the night mode?

Will the Aquacontroller Jr allow for this type of control/changes?
