can someone suggest which corals are the best for lowering nutrients in the water column?
i know from my own experience that plants in a freshwater tank can significantly lower things can the same be said of certain corals and which ones?
You can use plants like chaetomorpha in a refugium to lower some nutrients, but basically no matter how many corals you have nitrates will still go up until you do a water change, not like freshwater.
thanks. i put some chaeto in the sump yesterday plus some poly filter on the first baffle.
i hve some more chaeto coming in the week.
i think the main cause of nitrates and phosphates in my new tank is because i have not been using the feeding mode on the return pump so some of it goes down the weir in to the sump.

That could be a contributor, gotta use the feeding mode. In my tank I turn off all the flow and drop food in a tiny pinch at a time until the fish get full and it starts hitting the sand.
