Best overflow setup?

Looking for best setup for 400 gal. Thoughts on overflows ie external Calfo/glass holes style vs stand standard internal overflows w Durso? Leaning toward externals due to ease of plumbing maintenance and reduction of leak risk from bottom plumbing. Thinking w internal MP40/60 for added flow instead of PIA closed loop, but open to advice!

I went with a C2C external with a smooth weir, bean style. Many will argue the smooth weir and I havent setup the tank to give you real experience. I too am using mp40&60.

My leemar 260 will have an external bean! Wouldn't go any other way. Unless you don't have space. My tank will be 35" deep with the overflow.

Thanks for the reinforcement. I like the idea of tuning and plumbing all accessible. At 400 gal, thinking I may put large external overflows on each side of tank and leave back open as it is against wall. Anyone have trouble w dual overflow setups this large?

I've been wondering this as well. From my recollection I can't remember seeing any one running Dual "Bean Animals" would it even be possilbe to tune the 2 full syphons? I guess the overflows would isolate them from each other?

Where is the the best place for The intake of close loop!? I thought it was the best place...

Usually from inside the tank, either on the side of the tank or on the bottom.
I can picture pipe running through the overflow but I wouldn't want my CL to depend on the water level in my overflow.

Dual overflow comments anyone? Can you run 2 bean animals on opposite ends of a tank? Seems if they weren't dead level with each other, might be chaos.

I'm not sure if you can run two siphons or not. To me, since you control them with gate valves, you should be able to do it... BUT you'll have to make sure that your other drains will be able to handle it if they were both to loose their primes and if you slow them both down too much then you could loose the flow rate and loose the reason to have 2 running at 45% rather than one running at 90%. And how much flow are you looking to have in your tank? I don't have a link but there is a good thread on here about the Bean Animal that shows where the 1" drain could handle as much as 3000 gph. Seems to me that you could achieve all you want with one drain, possibly increasing the drain size if you desire a high flow rate and would be less worry.

Good Luck
Mike

I don't think dual overflow would be a problem.
What would cause chaos? You just adjust each overflow accordingly because water will flow into each individual overflow at a consistent rate as long as your return pump is consistently pushing water back into your DT.

I personally would go with larger pipe (1.5" or 2") in case 1 overflow has to take on the majority of the water.
