best place to buy fish locally?

not sure what it is...fluke maybe> looks like sea lice or something to that effect. i could see it move on the fish.

it's been in the display for just over a week, he had other spots that fell off of him. So i would assume it's only a matter of time before the clown and chromis show signs.

now, the only issue is...my wife.
with a soon to be 8 month old looking like he's going to walk any day now, she is not keen on setting up a qt tank for 2 months on our kitchen table or a tote on the floor somewhere.

I'm going to call GA as I was going down to pick up the other fish credit this week and see what they say.
once i upgrade to the 50, i can use this system for a qt. but just don't have the room or energy to deal with this right now.
Either way, I'll be fishless for a few months.

I don't want this post to seem like I'm bashing GA, because I'm not. The store was very clean and I'd buy fish there again. just not on the final hour of their big spring sale :)

I'll update tomorrow.
thanks for the support folks. Stressful losing a pet or feeling helpless just watching them get chewed up.

What kind of parasite? What does it look like?

I'd call GA to discuss it. It sounds like you may have a credit coming.

You need to I'D that parasite ASAP. And if the fish is in the DT, get it out ASAP.

So, in order of importance...

1) Get the fish out of your DT
2) Call GA and discuss the situation, asking for a credit
3) I'D the parasite and begin treatment

Good luck.

Ok. Spoke to the owner Jason, and he couldn't have been nicer. We have identified the parasite as flukes.
So he is giving me some prazipro and we'll keep an eye on the other fish. Store credit was also given for the cost of fish and travel expenses.
Just bad luck on my part. Had the fish been in his system for a few days, we'd be fine. But they take in a lots of live stock for that sale.

Flukes are easy... prazi pro I believe is even coral safe...

For bath treatment:
10 minutes in a fresh water bath treated with prazipro.
(I use 1 and 1/2 dose for a bath)
Drop the fish in and start a timer, watch the fish closely. It will start to tip over when its time to take it out or after 10 minutes.
(Dont let him tip over more the 90 degrees... the smaller the fish the faster it will tip)
(***bath should be heavily aerated)

While it is in the bath you should see some stringy clear-ish things falling out of its gills.

At this point he could be put right back into the tank but I would...

Next I would put the fish in a hypo-salinity QT tank (1.010 - 1.014) if you can, slowly bring the salinity up over the two weeks and he should be good...

Every fish you ever buy will have flukes... just a fact of life... like most, the overall health of the fish will determine how badly it affects them.

I would say bring it over to my place, I have the hypo QT setup and the prazi pro on hand. I just treated a yellow tang not long ago so I still have everything setup.... not the bath of course... but that takes two minutes...

HOWEVER, with all that said... I dont know that your fish has flukes, from memory I don't think you can really see flukes... at least not in the fishes gills.... they look like completely flat, are mostly clear-ish and only have a slight whitish color when seen during a treatment exiting the fishes gills.

thanks for the offer srusso. I may take you up on since i don't have the room for a qt tank right now.
Jason wasn't sure if he would get prazi in this week.
I'll post a picture later tonight of the flukes. they look like clear flatworms on his body.
do i have to worry about the other fish now being infected? everything i read said yes, but GA said to just watch the clown and chromis.
picking up a cleaner shrimp this week that finally came in too.

flukes on side of fish.
