That's what I paid for the salt I bought. It was a while ago and I don't remember if I paid for shipping, I track what I spend on my tank and I have a $40 mark for salt last year when I set up my tank. I've since switched to RC for my waterchanges, but I'm about to buy a box of IO for my first fill on a tank upgrade so I've been watching the IO prices. I've had prime for a while and it's more than paid for itself (mine was $80 for the year, free 2 day shipping on all orders). There's also a thread in the general discussion forum where a bunch of people just bought 160g buckets of io on Amazon for less than $30, I wish I had pulled the trigger on that deal!

In any case, op asked for a recommendation on where to buy this salt online. Several people have said they like dr.s F&S, several people have said they like Amazon, and several have said they like pet solutions. The prices seem to shake out within a few $ of each other, and the rest is personal choice. My choice is to not store my credit card info all over the net; so when I buy from brs, or dr.s F&S, I put in all the numbers every time. Amazon has my address, and billing info, so I just click on the salt on Tuesday and it is on my porch on Thursday. That has never not worked out well for me, but if your way works for you b/c you live down the road from pet solutions, that's cool too.

Strickland, you don't use PayPal? Obviously not for Amazon, but just about everywhere else accepts PayPal, which eliminates the need to enter credit info....I don't like that either, in fact, I don't even store my info on Amazon, I don't trust that they won't be hacked.

Amazon is the best place to purchase Instant Ocean or Reef Crystals. It is cheaper than most at Amazon's usual price, and they constantly have deals that allow you to purchase it cheaper. However, I just wait until HW salt goes on sale at BRS and buy as many boxes as they allow. Last year I purchased enough to last me through the year at the same price as Instant Ocean.

Just to beat a dead horse here, this is the fulfillment by Amazon, you see they list reg price of $81? laughable & the only way to receive free shipping is with (prime $99 a yr)
otherwise it is $24 shipping PLUS $4 tax, which I forgot to mention that Pet solutions or F & S do not charge, so for all of us non-prime members Amazon is $68 for 200g box of Instant Ocean.....clearly not the best choice, also I forgot to mention that Pet Solutions usually offers a 15% discount on purchases of $100 or more & 10% off $45 or more, once a month, so I always wait for those deals, I'm not certain if F & S do the same, but I'm going to guess they do. I am not "hating" Amazon, it's just that I do my homework every time I order online, clearly if you have prime & it's "In Stock"(what a joke)...go for it, I just find it ridiculous that a multi billion dollar corp. needs people to spend $99 a yr to get special treatment, to me that is needless greed.

That is cheaper than any other site I use including pet solution. Prime offers more than just great shipping rates. You have a service similar to Netflix, and now free unlimited photo storage. I am in the military and deploy frequently for very long periods of time, so free 2 day shipping is well worth the $99 a year. Most other places wont even ship to me.

Best place to buy IO? Wherever you can find the best deal at the time you need it. That may mean Petsolutions, F&S, Amazon (especially if you have Prime, which provides more benefits than just "free shipping" ftr) or even your LFS.

If you look closer....that order is fulfilled by Pet Solutions through Amazon & you also pay $4 tax, so.....$51 total & I understand how Amazon works, I have ordered many, many, many times from them....$35 purchase of Amazon fulfilled items ship free BUT & this is a big but..the Instant Ocean 200g box fulfilled by Amazon without prime is still $24 shipping + $4 tax, it does not qualify for free shipping without prime, because of the weight.

You like prime, that's good for you, I won't give them $99 for 2 day free shipping, they already add a few dollars to their prices to compensate for shipping & I don't need their poor selection of slow downloading movies.

You could also get it from brs, get 2 boxes, uses the $5 off online promo code and get free shipping because it's over $75.

That's the next best deal besides amazon.

I use the RED SEA SALT and get it though Marine Depot!! But they also sell INSTANT OCEAN! NEVER had ANY problems from them!
