Best Protein Skimmer

Anyone have suggestions on the best HOB protein skimmer for a 29 gal. mixed reef? I'm considering Aquamaxx & Reef Octopus. Any help would be appreciated.

Aquamaxx is really great. Aside from doing an excellent job I like it has room for a heater and probes so you dont have them in the tank.

Does anyone have the Reef Octopus Classic 1000? I'm interested in how quiet it is with the pump mounted outside and if anyone has had problems with it leaking.

It is, aquamaxx doesnt make that style anymore but its the best one.

I have that exact model available if your interested. Brand new motor as well. It's an Aquamaxx HOB XC.

I ran an AquaC Remora for at least six years on a 40g reef and had absolutely no complaints. Never had to mess with it (think I used a Mag 7 on it). There may be better but it performed as expect and went maintenance free for 13 months while I was on deployment in '03-04.

I have a SWC 300A running 24/7 since 2009. I did replace the pump once. It was an upgrade from a reef octopus 250 and it was no comparison. The Askoll pump is amazing and quiet.

I'm looking to purchase new and am leaning towards the Reef Octopus Classic 100 Hang-on-Back Protein Skimmer. Pump is inside the tank so I'm thinking there is a less chance of leakage.
