Best quality heater?

Please explain on how the quality went down. This heater has a low water level cutoff, 2mm thick Pyrex glass, a thermostat that you can calibrate, and has a better user rating than most. Don't speculate and make false statements if you don't have facts. Additionally a titanium heating element without a thermostat is NOT the best combination, its better to have the heaters thermostat set just above the Ranco cutoff as a secondary cutoff to be there for the rare occurrence of a Ranco failure.

I imported discus for two years and used 8 new model Jaeger heaters on 8 of the 14 seventy-five gallon tanks in my holding system. 4 of the 8 heaters FAILED, and they were all the new models, purchased after Ebo-Jaeger was purchased by Eheim. The heaters even had the warning not to fully submerse in water, even though they are fully submersible.

A 50% failure rate was unheard of with Ebo-Jaeger heaters prior to the Eheim purchase. Ebo-Jaeger heaters seldom failed before the company was purchased by Eheim and they were remade as Jaeger. I have Eheim canister filters that I have used for 18 years without a failure, but the quiality of the Eheim made Jaeger heaters are nothing compared to the old Ebo-Jaeger heater.

Spouting off all the supposed great product features means nothing if the quality is not there.

So maybe you should not assert that I make false statements about the quality of these Eheim owned Jaeger heaters until you have had the amount of product experience I have had with them, smart guy.

And I have been using Ranco controllers in my FW and Reef systems for years, and have never had a failure.

Every heater I've owned has eventually failed within 1-2 years. This would include stealth, hagen, a titanium heater and a bunch of others, this is going back like 5 or 6 years when i was into FW tanks. Eventually, the thermostat ALWAYS fails. Use your heater on a controller of some kind (ranco, reef keeper, aquacontroller, etc..) or at least get two undersized heaters that way when one fails OFF the other can make up for it or if it fails ON it won't overheat the tank too bad. They can't fail ON when they're on a controller so thats the best way.

I have a stealth 250w and a Pro Heat 300w and both seem to be reliable, but I wouldn't run either without a controller. I have a Reefkeeper II. And to one of the posters above, your tank can never be too small to invest in a good quality temp controller unless you are blessed with not having to run a heater at all. A good controller (Ranco) can be had for less than $100, and I am 99.9% sure all of us have at least that much investing in our tanks. :)

Finnex titanium heaters (two), with a ranco dual-stage temp controller. Doesn't get much more fail-safe than that.

Well sir, your experience with these heaters are exactly the opposite of what most peoples experience has been, and as for you thinking you have more experience with this heater than I do is wrong as you have not asked me how many of these heaters I have worked with, you said you bought 8 of them and then stopped, I can assure you that this heater does not have a 50 percent failure rate and for you to say that is completely wrong, I have set up countless tanks and have only used jager, of course some have failed, but I think if the company transition was not made public than you may have a different view, and for you being sarcastic with the "smart guy" comment, all I can say is grow up, adults can have different views and have disagreements without that level of immaturity, children cant.

A 50% failure rate is more than enough to convince me to stop buying a certain brand of heater.

Look in the mirror. You accused me of making false statements. My experience and statements are based on actual ownership experience. Differing opinions are fine, but you accused me of lying, plain and simple. Be an adult yourself before you throw stones at others.

Again, you admited to using only 8 heaters and and you still insist that the entire line has a 50 percent failure rate, this is not the case, My statements were that I have used these heaters and a lot of them, I have been happy with the performance as many others have. I have never accused you of making false statements, I dont know where in the thread you feel like I did this

Did you forget your own words from page one?

Short memory.

Certainly, in a statistical sample. The thread starter just wanted folk's opinions. I stated mine. 50% of the Jaeger heaters I bought failed. I didn't say that was the failure rate for the entire line, but just my personal experience with Jaeger heaters after they were redone by Eheim.

You need a larger sample to accurately determine failure rates.

Here's a user survey of aquarium heaters:
http://www.cichlid-forum.com/reviews/category_display.php?CatID=701&sort=rating&pg=all

I use a controller in series with my heater. My preferred heater is the Jager because it has an LED indicator and because it can be calibrated (http://www.boroniaaquarium.com.au/n...etterSession=7c5a8ab1545a1745e6514e6d836edb6f).

I only use Jaeger heaters i can say 12 old and about ten new in a diffrent set ups around the area not one fail so far i still have one that i warm up my salt mix, had to be 15 years old or more
I did try some titanium heaters on a controller three of them burnt out in about two week i just give up on them .
