best quick disconnect hose fittings

any opinions on which quick disconnect hose fittings work well?
or don't work so well?

I have been designing a new multi-level reef aquarium for 6 months now. it is going to have 6 tanks plumbed together. Each will overflow to the next via 2" tubing. its going to be a lot of connections and i move regularly so i want to be able to break it down and set it up with ease. i will also need quick disconnects for the pump attachment, probably 3/4"

moving sucks, but hopefully this will make it a lil easier
 
If your talking about draining the tanks anyway there is no reason to add the expense of true union ball valves as simple pipe unions would work fine at a much smaller expense. Like $6 versus $36 dollars each.

Consider also if you wish to disconnect the hose from bothends with a true union ball valves you would need either another true union ball valve at the other end or a stadard. union. Either way that would cost substaialy more than two standard unions. A true union only offers one real adavantage and that uis it takes up less linear space than a seperate balvalve and two seperate unions.

A seperate 2" PVC ball valve costs $8, meaning two unions plus the two ball valves would costs $22 versus the $36 for an equivalent true union ballvalve. Plus if you wished to disconnect boy=]th ends of your hoses with the use of a true bal valve the cost would be either $42 or $72 dollars versus $22 using standard unions anda ball valve. In most cases unless space is very limited true union ball valves are merely a waste of money.

That's why I mentioned where necessary therealfatman. There are a number of circumstances where you'd like to stop flow on either side of the ball valve and disconnect. I like the savko SCH40 unions because they are VERY compact (much more than the Lowes and many that are on the flexpvc site).

Having used those normal ball valves before, I wish you good luck :) There is nothing worse than needing to adjust or shut/open a ball valve... and breaking off the handle or realizing it's stuck.

None the less, that's my two cents from my experiences thus far over the years. Just with many things in the hobby, there's a time to go cheap and a time to do it right and/or the best way you can.
