Not sure where the post went

I need something in the 1000-1500 gph area at 6ft head & it must be quiet

Snapper gold is something I am looking at but is there something better out there? The gold is quite a but more then the snapper 18 or a used snapper, is the gold that much better?

I do not care if it's internal or external..... it's going on a 475g FO tank

I would say save your money and go with the Snapper 18. I have used them both, and honestly you're not going to be able to tell much difference either way.

Also, if you ever want to "upgrade" it to a Dart all you have to do is change out the impeller.

Thanks,
Jeremy

That's great to hear since it's quite a bit less money!!!

Are the Red Dragon internal pumps as good as the price says?

The Red Dragons are awesome pumps, just extremely expensive. In my opinion you don't need to spend that kind of money on a return pump to get one that is quiet, efficient, and high flow. Now, if the price were lower, I'd say go for it!

BTW, I have a few Red Dragon pumps left on clearance that might fit the bill for you if interested. We have a 10m3 that I could get to you for $450 (regular retail was $849), and a 12m3 for $499 (regular retail was $899). Let me know if you're interested!

Thanks,
Jeremy

The descriptions of the RD pumps say "low pressure." Does that mean they would not be suitable for returns when the sump is in the basement and has to pump up 10 to 15 ft to the display tank?

You could run it up to 10 - 15 feet with no problem. All you need to take a look at is the desired gph you're wanting, and size the pump accordingly for that head pressure.

Thanks,
Jeremy

I called the shop today and they told me to go ahead & place the order and just leave a message with the price that you quoted. thanks

Got it a few days ago.... thanks!

I forgot to get bulkheads.... oops

I do have a question, is it better to run these pumps inside the sump or external? I can do it either way, just not sure which way is the best for the life of the pump and also noise.

You can run the pump either internal or external, doesn't really matter either way. They have very low heat transfer, and are virtually silent as well.
