Its really personal preference... I went with 3 lines over the top to the front of the tank and directed the flow toward the back. With my tank I am looking to hide as much as possible.
I ended up isolating them within my overflow. I get zero siphon back from the tank itself when the return shuts off. There is added risk involved with drilling two more holes though. Over the back is simpler and works just as well.
Yup, that's what I'd do also (though just a single return would suffice). Every time I ponder any kind of piping over the back of my tank I break out in hives. FWIW, if you are going with a clear C2C, black PVC is the way to go - very nice!
