Best Salt?

I use a 50/50 combination of IO and Oceanic.... seems to be a popular choice in my area

+1 but only because I've found it to be the most affordable way of doing WCs and maintaining my trace elements (cal, mag, etc.)

Now, if I could do Reef Crystals for the same price, I would go with that...

I use Reef Crystals and have never had a problem with it. Nothing that's made me want to switch brands. It dissolves almost instantly.

I remember five years ago I was told to use coralife salt, now it seems nobody uses it anymore, is reef crystals that much better?

I use Instant Ocean but when it is gone I will be buying Reef Crystals from then on out. I.O. just doesn't have the Ca that it should, I think when I tested a new batch of it I found the Ca to be 360ppm.

Yes, IO has always run on the low calcium side.

I add calcium and magnesium to it. IMO, that makes a better (and less expensive) salt than Reef Crystals for my purposes. I neither want nor know the identity of what the vitamins are that they add, and I want my mix to be stable for weeks in a storage container (anything with organics like vitamins may not be stable and may encourage bacterial growth and metabolism of those vitamins to who knows what). :)

E.S.V boinic very consistent and mixes fast when i get the mood to do changes i mix it and 10 15 min later im changin water

A very good point, I might do just that. Let me ask you this, I ordered some bulk Ca from BRS is that a good way to boost up your Ca? Do you do the same for the Mg? Thanks

Yes, the calcium and magnesium from BRS are good ways to boost IO or other salt mixes. I actually use Dowflake and MAG flake (or MAG flake plus some Epsom salt), but those can be hard for some people to get.

I use reef crystals. I am a pretty lazy reefer and have had good results. I only do water changes on occasion, maybe once every three months. Things seem to stay stable, and I get good growth.
