Best Skimmer for 140g

I am trying to find out what is the best skimmer that performs really well for my 140g. I have a $1k limit.

I read about the Bubble Master skimmers, but I am not interested. I saw some threads that people were having difficulties in getting it to skim. As well as, I saw that some of the Skimmers were skimming a light colored skimmate.

Let me know a good performing skimmer thats on the market.

Thanks

I love my H&S 200-1260, its $899, so you should be under your budget. The build quality and performance are very good. I rarely adjust mine and that is usually because I feel like fiddling with it rather than it actually needing to be adjusted.

H&S and Deltecs are very similar in performance. IMO though, H&S are built much better, plus they are a little less expensive.

IMO, Deltec makes very good skimmers, but the price of the skimmers and their replacement parts makes them unattractive, they are also not built as well as ER and H&S. They also don't offer in-sump models, which means that they have to be run external from the sump (although external skimmers tend to be slightly more efficient, the convenience of having a skimmer under the tank is nice). Unfortunately I don't have any pictures, but if you check out the H&S club you will find lots of pics of both H&S skimmers and the skimmate they produce.

Go with the H&S. I have one and love it ! In addition, I have never read a negative post about one here on RC..

I have an A150-2001 only because the recirc would not fit. It's on a 90 and doing great. I would go for the recirculating model and never look back.

Would the A200-1260 be an overkill for my tank? Should I go with the A150-F2001? What would you guys reccomend?

I appreciate your help everybody.

Just thought I'd clarify that Deltec does have in sump skimmers. The Turbo skimmers are in sump.

The A150 f2001 should be fine. How big is the whole system, and what is the bioload?

The whole system is about 165 gallons.

Heres the current fish list..
1 Hippo Tang
1 Red Sea Sailfin Tang
2 True Perculas
2 Purple Firefish

I plan to add..
4 Lyretail Anthias
1 Midas Blenny
2 Mandrain Goby

sjm817- Thanks for pointing that out, I had totally forgotten about Deltec's turbo skimmers.

You should get as big a skimmer as your budget will allow (within reason of course). My buddy used to run both a ER- RC250 and a Deltec AP-701 on his 110, they pulled out so much gunk I couldn't believe it. So I doubt you will regret getting the 200-1260 or A200-1260.

You will be fine with an a150-f2001, but as said above, it can't hurt to have the next size up.

I run the a150-f2001 on my 175 with a medium bioload and light fedding, and it pulls out tons of crap. The skimmate from these skimmers is disgusting.

I just installed a new A150 on my 180g and it's a perfect fit. I was planning on buying the A200, but my skimmer dealer said I didn't need it and he was right. Your bioload is lighter than mine, so the A150 should be good fit for your system.

BTW, checkout the H&S/Fins Reef sponsored forum as there's a used A150 for sale. No warranty though on used equipment, but great savings. When I did a search on H&S skimmers, they sporactically come up used for sale.

If you must have a new unit with the full 2 years warranty, then here's all the authorized dealers for H&S equipment.
