glutton for punishment: You could build your own...that's what I did with just a router, a table saw, and my oven.
Mine runs at just 120W, but ceiling height could be an issue since it is a counter-current air stone skimmer with about 50g capacity. But, there is no reason why you couldn't build one to suit the space you have available.
It is really not that hard to do, and a very rewarding project to be sure. And it's nice to tell visiting reefers, "Yeah, I built that bad boy!"
You can check out pics of it
HERE. You can see some of the construction pics and its evolution. I now do not use the Weatherson shut down method and have instead gone to a float switch that turns off the air pump. I have it set to pull out about 1 gallon per day, which is sort of a medium wet skimmate and will vary slightly based on salinity.
I don't believe it is better than a SPAZZ skimmer, but it does me quite well and is very simple to use, with very little tuning. In fact I rarely need to change the water flow through it.
I think SPAZZ skimmers are some of the best built for larger systems (way better IMO than Deltec, Bubble King etc.), and the Barr Aquatics/Austin Oceans units are the best for smaller systems. They really are well built and pull the gunk like no other I have seen in person.
