best snorkel sites in Yucatan peninsula

Specifically from Cancun south to Playa Del Carmen. I realize this a high flow tourist area so there's lots of traffic. I would think Cozumel is the best area in that region but I could be wrong and I'm sure there are some places off the mainland that are better than others- with most in a state of flux (degradation).
