Best SPS for tank with Angels

I have noticed many sps tanks with angelfish and was wondering what corals are the least likely to be consumed by them? Anybody have experience here they would care to share?

Depends on what kind of angels. Genicanthus won't touch any. My Red Sea Regal has not touched any so far knock on wood. My tank is 90% SPS.

I have an adult blueface and a juvenile (starting to change) emperor. The blueface is large and hungry, and sometimes bites the tips off of SPS. He has targeted things I have a lot of, so it hasn't wrecked my world. He ate all of my xenia as soon as he was added to the tank, and has also picked at BTAs. The emperor hasn't touched anything that I am aware of.

My problem is I have a stocked tank 500 gallons with about 30 fish. I have a large collection of angels 2 regals small, 1 queen medium, 1 emperor juvenile, 1 coral beauty, 1 half black, 1 Tibicen. I put a millipora frag in that was summarily picked clean by someone. A few tabling acros with small pollips are left alone. I feel as if I could get the right corals I'd be fine or maybe I'm dreaming lol. If my colonies were bigger maybe this wouldn't be so hard but new frags stand out and seem to be more attractive.

I know most lps corals and softies would be toast but a few of the sps corals with little pollips or dense branches might be more successful.

I had same issue I never saw my scribbled nip but sps were all retracted one day I finally caught him in the act and removed him things turned around I could be wrong but do believe most sps tanks with angels r grown out b4 angel is added??

I think angles are hit or miss. I have kept coral beauties and flames with no problems before. In this tank I tried a rusty and it picked on everything. Picked one milli to death before I could get the fish out.

Interesting. I always thought angels picked more at softies and zoos. I have a flame angel that is constantly picking at the rocks. I have not seen him pick and any corals, other than the ones that have die-off and algae growing on them. My polyp extension on all my acros is non-existant now. I think its more related to getting over a bad time than the angel picking. I do watch him like a hawk and haven't really seen him going to town on anything yet. It is rather suspicious that my polyp extension is gone on all my milles despite gaining color and showing growth.

Angels love some SPS. The only kind I have kept that didnt is my coral beauty he doesnt touch corals. I had a large and I mean LARGE blue face angel for about 2 weeks and it was fine and then suddenly started picking at my LPS and SPS. Had to get him out and sell him

I've got a lemonpeel angel in my SPS nano. She nips at the polyps but doesn't seem to do any damage, the downside is I get poor polyp extension during the day but this doesn't bother me much, I think there are very few fish that can do lasting damage to SPS short of biting the tips off

I've had a majestic and annularis for 2-3 years with no picking on coral. Both are 5-6" now. My tank is a 120 mostly all SPS. I had a previous majestic that was fine also. I did have 1 flame angel that picked sporadically but at least 3 others that were no problem

I think training them to eat introduced food in quarantine and keeping them well fed is key. I feed my own frozen blender food and nori

My digitate acropora don't get touched by my emperator. It will nip off growth tips on a lot of acros but won't and probably can't eat the thick Nubby corals. Anything with skinny branches is fair game. It will take the tips off of healthy colonies every week or two but they grow back in days. It doesn't prefer a certain one just which ever one it feel like eating tips off of it seems. Validia, abrolhosensis, Millie's, and anything with a nice plump edible tip it can fit its jaws over.

I have a tank with colonies and lots of frags. It will not eat the tips off of single frags, at least has not yet. We keep it very well fed. I am not sure why it hasnt eaten frags, maybe there is something in the colonies new growth that it likes thst isnt in a fragment of a coral. I would guess its the large polyp on the tip. Angels we had that don't eat corals at all (but can and will if not fed or housed properly) are, African flameback, flame angel, and most genicanthus.

Our multicolor would mouth certain favorite acros to get the slime coat off and rub flesh off. This was the most destructive type I have kept. And the only one that actually seemed to prefer certain corals. In this case the favorite was a yellow tip austera.

As you can see by the various replies to your question, that fish are individuals. There are no absolutes between individuals. So, you'll just have to spend time and money, to figure out what will work in your tank and with your fish.

It will get expensive! I also find that large grown specimens have some reserve to withstand the initial onslaught of inspection, where frags are gone very quickly.
