Best Stand Height?

I added 12" to 14" to my factory stands cause it's rediculous to lean over!

Yea one of my 360s came with a steel stand that is maybe 24" tall... I built a spacer with 2x14s and sat the tank on that. It's nearly impossible to work on.

I am working on a 75 gallon build on a 40" tall stand. It provides more vertical space. The plywood construction gives even more space. I ended up using the upper space for an equipment tray to hold all the wiring and hide gear. Nice not having to lean down for viewing.

My homemade stand is 28" but I have a 30" tank on top of it. I still need a stool to reach into the tank comfortably, and the bottom is a bit cramped. It's the perfect height for viewing from the couch though.

My tank is also in my office. Built in wall. I designed mine to just above desk height. Since I have no real windows in there this gives a nice view.

So last night I got out our step stool that my wife uses to reach the top kitchen cupboards and had her measure up to my armpit which was 68" then I subtracted the 24" for the tank and came up with 44". So I will be building at about 42" just for a little wiggle room. Woodworking is my other addiction so this project has got me very exited. I will be building out of solid Qtr sawn white oak, in a Roycroft style with reverse taper legs to match my kitchen that I built a couple years ago. Stay tuned for the build thread! Wood should be here in a few weeks. Thanks to everyone who answered my question.

WOW, you guys are building your stands pretty high. I want to build 32" stands, but it won't work for the sump and equipment. I have to go at least 36", but I really want it lower, and I am 6' tall.

I will be viewing the tank setting down not standing. That is how I am going to enjoy the tank. While I am setting, I want the center of the tank to be at my eye level. It is the same concept as setting up your big flat TV. You don't want to be tilting your head up to watch TV.

I find myself standing at the tank with my nose almost pressed up to the glass and sometimes even a magnifying glass in hand. I don't know why but the "little things" in the tank are what fascinate me. Its all what you are into.

I do the same thing, but I just get down on my knees and the bottom of the tank is then eye level.

The best stand height has as much to do with the stand as it does with the fish keeper. You don't want a stand that you have to crotch down to look unless you're doing a topless frag tank, also you don't want a stand that's too tall and you need a step ladder to do basic maintenance either. Whichever way you go leave yourself some room down below to do basic maintenance either way. The easier you make it to get into the tank and the sump the more likely you'll be to actually do maintenance more often.

Sounds like I am the odd man out as I prefer my stands low.
I like to sit on my couch or chair and look straight into the tank.
I also prefer to look slightly downward on my corals vs upward.
