Best Submersible Return Pump

Looking at flow rates for the fluval. According to the marine depot site, the sp2 is rated for 950 gph at 0' head but only 290 gph at 4.5'. By comparison the mag 9.5 (950 gph at 0') puts out 700 gph at 5'. Is there a typo on marine depot's site or do the fluvals lose that much pressure?

Ok so I'll eliminate the fluval as a return pump and consider it for a skimmer pump only. Anyone know if the Sicce loses head pressure that much too?

If you like the fluval you can go with the sp 4 with more flow than all of those at that height and still very energy efficient.

Cool, thanks. Wasn't familiar with the Fluval pumps at all. And good to hear that Sicce is a good option too. I have a Sicce powerhead in my big tank and it's great.

In my experience, Sicce pumps are rather loud. Definitely louder than Eheim or Fluval. I don't know how they get away with making any claims regarding sound on these pumps. I have heard the smaller ones are a bit better though... but then again, all small pumps are quiet lol.

I'm curious how your sicce synchra held up. Mine just crapped out and I bought it in 2014.

Well, I ended up having to break that tank down due to a leak, and I ended up just selling the whole setup. The Sicce was fine for the year that the tank was up. I did use another Sicce as a pump for some reactors on my other tank and that one DID break after about two years. Just froze up and stopped running. I still have it but will probably transfer it to the garbage can soon.
