Hey guys!
I've been debating for a while about getting a ruby bubble tip anemone and decided to pull the trigger on Saturday when I had the chance to pick a larger one up for only $30 from a guy who was tearing down his tank. I have a tomato clown that loves to host anything and everything, but he's about 4 inches so I had to wait until I found a BTA big enough (this guy is about 6 inches across).
I put a tank separator in (cut from the light diffuser people use for frags cut to the dimensions of my tank) that separates the anemone from the rest of my coral and fish. I covered the pump on the anemones side and he seems happy as a clam (or anemone). He hasn't moved much, just away from the light and flow initially. I just moved him to an area of higher flow/light with a nice crack to mount his foot, though in not sure how he'll like it.
Anywhoo, this brings me to my main question. How long should I wait until I move the barrier to let the clown in? The fish are confined to what is now about a 25 gallon section of the tank in my 40b which I'm sure they aren't too excited about, but I also want to give the anemone enough time to adjust. It doesn't seem too active, and appears to be slowing down finding its spot. However, I'd hate to open the partition and have the clown jump into it, making the anemone super ****ed, and becoming very mobile and buddy buddy with my coral and/or equipment (yes, I understand this is a risk no matter what). I'm just looking for advice to hear about how you guys have noticed clowns hosting an anemone, whether it affects their behavior or not. Could it make them stay in one place more easily? Or do they get annoyed and move because of it?
Thanks for reading!
