Best type of shrimp to keep for breeding???

Hello.

I'm planning on incoorporating a pair or multiple pairs of shrimp in a remote tank (plumbed into my main system). I'm looking for shrimp that will produce offspring which can then become tasty little snacks for the fish and corals in the DT.

I'd like this little project to be easy and of low maintenance. Just a little additional live food for my DT.

Any suggestions on the best species of shrimp to attempt this with??

Any ideas on how to best set it up so that the offspring get swept into the water column and into the DT??

Thanks.

Jeremy

I think your best bet would be to go with multiple peppermint shrimp -- as they are plentiful and inexpensive as far as shrimp are concerned (at least, here in the US.) A group should spawn pretty regularly for you. And the larvae are pelagic, so you don't have to do anything to sweep them into the water column -- they are going to be there already.

Thanks!!

I've done some searches and I agree that it sounds like peppermint shrimp would be the easiest shrimp to try and use for my purposes.

Any idea on the nutritional value?? Just wondering if the endeavor would be worth it or if the larval shrimp would be a snack without much nutrition.

If you can do the set up without much trouble, then it is likely to be worth it. Larvae are a favorite food of most reef creatures, and you'll likely see your tank go wild when they flood the tank (I got to witness this once, and it was really interesting.)

my emerald crabs release larvae pretty often. they do it right after the lights go off and sometimes When I turn the light back on to do maintenance the clowns take advantage and eat the little crab larvae maybe I should try raising them.
