Best Water Temp for Paly/Zoas

I keep them at the same temp as the rest of my tank. I keep my tank at 80 day and night and my zoas are exploding. Some will say that's a little warm and I am just saying what works for me.

My tank is set for 79.5 which is where it stays 90% of the time. Sometimes it sneaks up to 79.9. Mine are happy at this temp. I think it doesn't matter much though for paly/zoas. I've run my different tanks as high as 84 and as low as 75-76 with absolutely no problems with any paly/zoa.

Think of how diverse the order you are trying to quantize is, zoas and palys exist at all different locations on the reef that are exposed to all different conditions.

Proper temperature for metabolic processes is probably all over the place, I would say instead of trying to find the "ideal temperature" (As there is no ideal one temperature) pick a suitable middle temperature and stick with it. Your colonies will adapt and with consistency comes results.

I believe that with consistency in keeping your temps at EXACTLY the same within a degree or less all of the time comes weakness and unnecessary high stress when the inevitable temp swing does occur at some point

jmo of course

I think the take home message is, they're pretty weeds. They grow fast, they are extremely hardy unless they're being harassed by something or are weakened by something. It really doesn't matter. I let me temp swing around all over the place on my tank because I don't want it to be a ball and chain. My corals and fish are doing great. If I lose a colony every once in a while, I'm left with stronger corals and I'll put something else nice in it's place. I don't lose much, though.

You could take the zoas out and throw them on the floor for 3-4 hours then put them back in and they'd be fine in a day or two and a week later they'd throw off 4 more polyps. They're not that picky.
