I was wondering what is the best way to set this up for wifi heard that if u use a gaming adapter it works better than bridge However I just want to run it. Wirelessly with out a CPU
I just ordered a III (upgrading from a Jr) and was hoping that I could use this USB Wireless adapater I have -- has a cable to convert from USB to Ethernet so it should work.
I use the Buffalo ethernet adapter (I think WLI-TX4-G54HP). Works right out of the box and iirc about $25 cheaper than the Linksys gaming adapter which had many issues on my set up (resetting, losing settings, dropping connection - even though I also use linksys router).
I use a LinkSys-G Game Adapter and have not experienced the problems indicated above (my connection had been up over a year with no downtime). The dropped connections issue was fixed in the AC3 software; keep alive issue if I remember correctly.
Not saying that LinkSys is the only or best choice, it's just a choice.
They have adapters that turn USB into Ethernet ports ... you would need a female-to-female USB adapter to plug the wireless stick into the adapter and then lan cable to go from the adapter to the ACIII
Total in parts - $40? ... less than that Gaming Adapter
I still don't see this working; the AC3 is Ethernet; how are you going to connect Ethernet into a USB device. You can't plug 2 USB devices into each other unless you have some sort of USB (powered) hub (you need to have power for the USB devices).
I know its ethernet ... they have little adapters that have a male USB on one end and a ethernet port on the other ... obviously the ACIII will connect via cat5 to this adapter. Then slap a Female/Female USB adapter on the other side --- this will allow the wireless USB stick (as in the link above) to plug in.

A USB device will not work; you need a game adapter. Anyone will most likley work just be sure what you purchase is compatible with your router; the person where you purchase your game adapter should be able to help you.
I don't know all the Netgear devices but if it is 802.11G compatible it should work with the LinkSys. I suspect that Netgear may also have a game adapter if you want to stay with the same brand.
