Never run in vinegar overnight. Many pumps have epoxy in them where the power cord goes into the block. Vinegar is used in the marine manufacturing business to clean up epoxy and will actually break down and soften hardened epoxy if left exposed for too long. Take the pump completely apart. Soak the block, impeller and volute in vinegar for a short amount of time. 10 minutes is usually enough to soften calcium buildup on a well maintained pump. Then scrub and rinse. Repeat if necessary. I do this to my skimmer pump every 4-5 months and my pumps always come out looking like new. On my Tunze's, I do it once a year and the calcium requires much more work. If the part is all plastic and not a motor block, you can soak as long as you want but I avoid soaking blocks and impellers for too long.
