Best way to determine sex in a peacock?

I have my peacock and I want to know the sex of it.

I know that the males are usually more green in the shell when mature and that females are more olive when mature. I also know that you should be able to look for the penises on large males which should be behind the last walking legs.

My peacock isn't fully mature yet. He/she is about 4 inches, maybe less I would say, and is more olive on the shell and I can't locate any sex organs behind its legs so I think it might be a female but I'm not sure if it's just too young to locate the organs.

Are there any other ways that the sexes differ? Am I looking in the right place for the organs? Thanks

you are looking in the right place, plus i think they are like us, the tool is there just not ready for use when they arent mature, i would say it is a female, the color thing doesnt always matter either, monte is actually a girl and she is very bright green

Would a 4 inch mantis be considered mature? It is pretty big in my eyes relative to the other mantis that I had in my tank first which was pretty small.

Also, what is the differences in adult males and females? I can't really seem to find much information. Do males get larger than females? Any difference in aggressiveness? and how colorful do females tend to get?

if i read the roy pages right, 4 inchs is medium to huge for mantis's small i think is under a couple inches, maybe under an inch?

best way to figure it out... buy it a drink...

Lol.. but I don't want to take the risk and buy a male mantis a drink cause they've got some quick hands

4 inches isn't huge for a Peacock Mantis at all. That's not even full grown. This is why I want to know how large a female will get and what the differences are when they are fully grown

from what i know they are very very solitary animals, they only come together when wanting to mate, besides that one of them will be killed if invading the others territory, so its not like the l. maculata in which the male gets larger because he does the hunting, both male and female should be about the same size, the easiest way to determine the sex i would say is to coax their attention to the top of the tank so when they rear up or stand on the sides glass you can get a good look, thats what i did

You bring up some very good points my friend. That does makes sense. So I would assume that the only difference between adult males and females is that males are a bit more green shelled than the females. BTW, I was looking at your pictures of monte and my mantis resembles her a whole lot. Both are very good looking creatures...
It's feeding time!

lol thank you for the compliment, i havent seen any pics of yours but if its anywhere near what monte looks like it is a very beautiful creature, also as you can see from my pics how green her shell is. im sure side by side on a male it would looks darker but i think any brighter green would take away from the other colors she has
